Favors = passion?

Have always kind of admired Derrick's demeanor on the floor. Seems to be concentrated, under control, unflappable, never demonstrable. Personally all attributes that i like to see in a player. But, lately i have begun to wonder if there might be a little lack of passion in his game. I keep thinking about what he might do if he got a little fired up or angry. What do you all think about Favors behavior on the floor? He seems kind of laconic off the floor and on, obviously it's his personality and that's great, but sometimes he reminds me of Hayward. Doh!

I don't think you will ever see that fire you are looking for. He does not have the moxy of a superstar or the intensity to be a leader. I don't mistake that for lack of passion. Players who lack passion end up like Benoit Benjamin and olowakandi. Look at how well he has progressed. I still see him as a 17 and 10 guy who anchors our d with composure. He is a tremendous asset that we will be pleased with for years to come.

This is my main problem with Favors, the lack of passion in his game! Yesterday I alluded to that in the forum, but "Vermin" misunderstood my words and even had the courage to make sarcasm.

I think my yesterday's post has been an inspiration for you to open this thread.

Lack of fire could be a problem in playoffs game.

Agree on all your points Vermin. And i won't be unhappy with him at all and hope he will be here for years to come. Obviously he has a certain type of passion, can't compete if you don't . Lack of fire seems to be right description.

Yes, in my opinion. You can see it in his facial expressions more than any other way. Derrick seems to accept adversity while Duncan seems to dig in harder. Actually i believe Derrick does too but in a more introverted way. Actually the question is probably germane to the whole team as well as Favors. They are not a demonstrable bunch and that's all right with me. I am turned off by the "strutters". I agree with whoever said something to this effect " When you score a touchdown try to act like you have been there before".

Alec Burks seems to me to have the right demeanor for becoming a great player. Trey Burke also i think.

Alec Burks seems to me to have the right demeanor for becoming a great player. Trey Burke also i think.

I love alec and treys demeanor as well.

They both have thay quiet confidence and just plain ooze swagger

I know exactly what you're saying. At the OKC game my friend and I decided to concentrate only on Favors during the third quarter. My immediate and overwhelming impression was, "Wow, there's no intensity. None of his moves are crisp or decisive. Although he appears to have similar physical attributes, everything he does is done with significantly less intensity than Karl Malone would have done the same thing. I think it's a personality thing. I know for certain that people can change those types of seemingly hard-wired behaviors if they really want to, but they have to really want to. I doubt he does. If he did he would become a force to be reckoned with. Even without that sort of a change he is worth every penny of his contract. Just imagine what he could be worth with that sort of a change.

Anyone can act like a bull in a china shop, but very few can get away with it. That style is not going to work for Favors. His energy and passion are just fine; he's been solid all season and has earned his next season raise after being given it.

How about we stop trying to remake every Jazz big into Karl Malone?

Good lord! I see plenty of passion and fire from Favors. Just because he isn't as demonstrative as some other players doesn't mean he doesn't have fire, and unless you know the man personally. Locke who knows him personally has stated many times that Favors is very misunderstood in that regard.

Favors is a beast and a pro. I'd want him on my side in a fight any day.

I laughed when Harpring criticized Alec for not showing anything on his breakaway dunk. As if Matt was ever the most unguardable player on the floor before.

I like this teams demeanor. They are learning to close out games too. To me it is Corbin who looks like he could choke a game away.

Great quote. Tells a lot about many things that I could think of already that he had as his character. I appreciate Favors a lot. The more I know about him, the more I appreciate him as a person which is added to how much I appreciate him as a player.

If Favors continues to grow and his confidence grows, then he will show passion I'm sure. So many past stars never showed "passion" when they were young. It wasn't until their confidence grew from their play and they new what they could do with a ball in their hands. I don't worry about his passion YET....

In other words he's a man - so leave the basketball to Favors and just go down to Starbucks and order your Decafe, Double, Grande, 2 pump Vanilla, Non-Fat, Extra Hot, Latte and negotiate some "emotional shares" with your plutonic lady friend (who has 6 cats)
