What's new

Game Thread Feb 01, 2024 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. 76ers

Added to Calendar: 02-01-24

No worries dude, still plenty of February left.
Bah, it's February isn't it.

I post like Hardy substitutes.

With no awareness and no real thought.

Actually I did have another thought, maybe he relies a lot on the assistant coach or coaches and these new assistant coaches are the problem.

We have to understand that JC is on the trade block, and is getting this much burn even he sucks. Ainge has to had ordered this, bc if not, then Will Hardy is a push-off that is afraid to bench him when it clearly is losing ball like last two weeks.

Sexton had an amazing first quarter.
Horrible second quarter.

1st quarter was not amazing. That's why he got pulled early. He started off with the plays that drive Hardy crazy. Driving into the trees without looking around. 1st was a turnover and 2nd was getting blocked. He had some better offense after that but combined with poor defense and rotations he was coming out early.

Give 76ers credit they played very physical. They fouled a lot and the refs weren't calling much, so you keep it up. They frustrated the Jazz a lot. They also were super hot from 3 especially early which makes it hard. A lot of effort to come back and then just watch them make a deep 3.

This is the Clarkson experience he's a streaky shooter. But he did have 10 assists and only 1 turnover.

Unfortunately he's getting too many minutes and asked to do too much because we don't have a good enough guard to push him to less minutes. Hardy doesn't have a lot of options. Clarkson should be a 25ish minute player a game who's asked to score.

Kessler needed more minutes but it's not like the team was great in his minutes and it wasn't a great matchup for him. If he has to stay on the wing on defense he's not very helpful. I would have a played him more but I can see why we didn't.

Sexton is so frustrating because when he does things right he can play really well. He has great scoring instincts. But coach yelled at him multiple times to get in position and he looked confused on offense and defense at those times. I do like that him and Collins are developing something on offense. He's like Clarkson though you just have to let him do his own thing on offense.

76ers also had everything go right for them. They airball when jazz are in position for an easy rebound and it goes to their guy. Every tip ball went to them. Every desperation 3 at the buzzer went in.

Sixers played near flawless with only 4 turnovers and 50/43/90 team shooting along with 17 team stocks. They hit late clock 3s when they needed them the most, and stopped every run we looked primed to make.
  • The minutes distribution has been mentioned a lot and I 100% agree, especially about the Kessler part. Hardy has changed up his rotations and gone to what works but this game he missed the mark.
  • Clarkson was laying bricks out there but at least he didnt dribble trap himself all the time and he made some nice passes.
  • Lauri was really good on offense, but at times I'm so frustrated about his weak contests on defense. Tonight that made Tobias Harris look like prime Kawhi.
  • Simone has been very meh lately and should be a prime upgrade candidate if we go for upgrades at all.
  • Speaking of meh, thats something that Ochai has lately only dreamed of being. I may need to downgrade my avatar to an uglier face if this keeps on going.
Sense of urgency was missing. Last games lackadaisical feel carried a bit into this game, when we should have been out for blood to erase the bad taste. We need Sexton and Lauri to light up the rest of the team earlier and more often, which is exactly what Maxey did all day. Sexton had that one early steal where he fought and hustled hard, but I think he should have milked that more.

Just watch the replay. No surprise there, we are not bad but not good enough. People get excited when we make our series but we are back to earth. We will fight for last play-in spot with GSW ( And GSW have much more experiences than us) unless DA improve the team this week. Let' s see.

Just poor guard play from the start doomed us. Guess what, giving all the space to Maxey wasn't a good strategy. Dunn locked him down in the 3rd, but why did we have to wait until then for it?

Lauri scored 14 points in 6 minutes in the 4th after coming back in. And pretty much didn't touch the ball at all in the final 3 minutes.

This was just the most awful decision to jack it up from JC with the game tied, 90 seconds to play and 18 left on the shot clock. He should've been benched right then and there, but not of course gonna ever happen. Maybe we're showcasing him. Maybe Hardy knows the stink he'll put up if he doesn't finish every single game, as he already did that one single time it was George instead of him.

And on Keyonte's defense. The first one is just inexcusable. You're a rookie. You can't be just waving your hands, because something bad happened and give the opponent free baskets.

This might be more of a rookie lapse in concentration, but almost as bad still. Rookies make mistakes, sure. Rookies that are taking plays off on D should not play.

Glad I went to bed at halftime yeesh

Danny needs to dismantle this team. Currently we are on pace to give the Thunder their best case scenario.

Trade Dunn to the Bucks. Trade Sexton to the Lakers. Find a taker for Clarkson and KO.

I don’t what’s worse this or Kessler only getting 14 minutes.
He was playing amazing too. Playing one of his best games.

In 14 minutes he was 4-4 with 8 points, 4 blocks, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Second highest plus/minus on the team.

It's one thing to bench him when he is struggling but strange to bench him when he is playing fantastic.

Also, we called a timeout when we challenged the Collins block. Can you make substitutions during a timeout? Seems like that jump ball was kind of crucial. I would want Kessler to handle the jump ball. Maybe you can't do a substitution during a timeout in which you are doing a challenge though. Idk.

lol, yeah that box-and-one was really giving the Sixers fits.

I really hope he's just trolling and the actual answer is that he was ordered to showcase certain vets for trade deadline purposes.
That stat you posted early in the thread about the points scored while kessler was in vs while on the bench was one of the most mind blowing stats I have ever seen. Hardys answer in this tweet is basically saying he didn't play Kessler cause the defense would struggle with Kessler in. Wtf?
