What's new

Game Thread Feb 16, 2022 08:00PM MT: Jazz at Lakers

Added to Calendar: 02-16-22

When the Jazz play a team that switches defensively on the perimeter, and especially when that team starts trapping Mitchell, the Jazz need to swing the ball and who ever gets it needs to be able to put the ball down and make a play. Guys need to be able to drive the ball and either finish with a decent shot, or kick to an open shooter. Unfortunately, Royce can't do that. And strangely, tonight neither could Mike. Bojan just sat on the perimeter too. Their instinct is to hold the ball or move it around the perimeter waiting for Gobert to set a screen for them. This is a personnel problem. What happened with the Lakers tonight was no different from what happens when the Jazz play Miami.

Guys have to be able to attack a switch with a strong drive, and our guys can't do it. So our offense becomes Mitchell against the world. I wonder whatever happened to Mike's floater game. He could have used it tonight.
We need some game plan in tight games like this .Don hero ball in game like

We need some plan for tight games. Don was scoreless in last 5 min and this is story we saw like 10 times this season . Double him in 4th and you got 99% to win game...

i think lakers were more prepared to counter rudy and conley combo. our offense is just so predictable with them on the floor. so inserting Hassan and Forrest could have caught them off guard. Forest tried to dunk on Bradley was totally unexpected, he didn't make it but its awesome otherwise.

Yeah, this one hurt. The last few games started to give some hope and then the Jazz come out and remind us who they really are.

This team becomes so tight and timid in clutch situations. You can see it in the way they carry themselves. Once the momentum tide turns against them they collectively get that deer in headlight look. They need leadership, plain and simple.

Jazz got cocky on that fast break by trying to be too fancy. Instead of getting the easy two, Royce tries to make the extra, unnecessary pass to Mitchell for DM to do some cool finish and they end up turning the ball over. That was the beginning of the end in this one.

Honestly, the blessing in this loss is that it makes me care very little about the playoffs, so I won't have that stress this year.

I'll still watch of course, but I can't possibly see this group getting past the 2nd round, and honestly, getting past the 1st round seems like a stretch.

Rudy Gobert 5 pts ouch, but he has the best offensive stats in the NBA. We aren't winning with this guy's offensive handicaps

I'll preface my comments that the games before the All Star break are sometimes a little funky.

-The Jazz relaxed and then panicked. They continue to show they are a mentally weak team.
- Mike has been so consistently good this season that I'm guessing he is just ready for the All Star break.
- I love Royce, a lot, but that 4th quarter was not great for him.
- Quin seems to think that his guys will figure it out if he gives them enough time. I'm not sure how any sane person would think this after the amount of collapses we've endured.
- We need a new closing lineup. Even if it's just to shake things up and give the team some new energy and hopefully confidence to close. I don't think Quin will do it, which is unfortunate. At least situationally, Quin needs to adjust his closing lineup, he should have enough data points by now.

He’s the greatest player of all-time and he unfortunately plays for the Lakers.
The GOAT isn't supposed to take plays off if his team is losing. He's done that plenty of times. A lot of his stats also come from stat padding. Greatest athletes of all time? Yes, but greatest player? Jordan never pulled some of the stunts Lebron has pulled.
