Floater Problem....

Before this year Conley was the best at the floater. But then again before this year Conley was doing most everything else better as well.

I do agree that they get a bit tunnel vision and miss the open 3pt shooter and didn't think that it could be because they are really trying to setup Rudy so they don't see the shooters.

Jazz also (mainly Mitchell and Conley) as an entire team, or it feels this way at least, have to be shooting the lowest % in the paint in the NBA. Other teams make contested layups, going at, around or over Rudy none the less, better then anyone on the Jazz.

I just do not understand love of floater.... such a low percentage shot. Instead Mitchell should just take mid range jumper, way more accurate. Look at Kawhi for example... killer mid range jumper, you rarely if ever see him taking floaters. Only player who was really good at them was Tony Parker. Don should just stop it for real.

Donny's little 15 foot pull up jumper was money earlier this year. Seems he's gone completely away for that in favor of the running floater.

I might let Conley take that shot sometimes since he’s had such success with it in the past but Donovan’s has always been **** and he just has so much more physical ability to do other things than to just take the exact shot the defense is hoping you take.

I agree this is a much better shot. Sometimes I think the issue is you want to head towards the hoop to get the Rudy lob... but if they are dropping the big the 15 footer is so much better... I think he could get it off like Kawhi does in the mid-post... you also have the ability to pump fake and draw a foul and it is easier to reset if nothing is there because there is less traffic. I'd almost rather have him stop and pump fake or shoot a short fade away. The runner timing and feel is so hard.

DM will struggle with this a bit because he is a two foot jumper... so he will need to refine his craft and figure out a better option.

I didn't realize we had so little practice time, so this spiral is tough to fix without a little time to coach it up. The 1-4 record wasn't the biggest issue... it was a tough schedule... getting blown out was troubling... Philly also shot the lights out... this is all fixable, but it seemed to hit us all at the same time.

It was understandable in year's past since we had really limited creators/options and you need to mix in a few of those... It's gone to a new level and it should be going down now that we have some options.

Again... its a couple extra dribbles or a couple extra kickouts… I think Conley needs to look to set guys up on the outside a bit more and hopefully it is contagious... DM is also better with the handoff action than the pick and roll, so a couple possessions could go that direction.

The floater should just be outlawed on the team unless there is less than 3 seconds on the clock.
Shooters take it because they don't think they can get to the rim. If that is the case, they should just Nash dribble out and look for a cutter or open shooter.
I also hate Donovan taking the long mid-range shot (unless 3 second on the clock). It is not efficient. Defenses have evolved to the point that you can't be a great player unless you take high level shots. You can be a fake good player, but your team will not win if you take bad (i.e., low efficiency shots). Donovan needs to be James Harden.

In no situation do I see a good defensive team doing that. That’s why it’s a bad shot.
Conley was elite at that shot his entire career. If the D sees you hitting that sbot over and over again they are going to adjust positioning, all it takes is a few inches to open the passing lanes
