Floater Problem....

We've got a MAJOR problem with falling in love with this abysmal shot and there's no end in sight. Just heard on Locke's podcast that DM and Mike are leading the league in floater shot attempts and they're shooting 39% and 35% on those attempts. There's obviously a lot of room to improve across the board, but this one should be a no brainer..... DON'T ****ING DO IT!

Flush this shot attempt down the drain and try to work in any other options. Force it inside to Rudy, force a 3 attempt, try to get fouled, pull up for a short range jumper, whatever, but stop taking this shot!

2 or 3 more dribbles, kick the ball out... reset and make the defense play longer... it’s just kinda frustrating we are still here.

The worst thing is that at least 50% of these floaters were taken with an open 3 pt shooter watching.

I'm going to watch a little closer, but I'm not sure this is the case... If we dribble a little deeper though then it opens up the weakside threes. Again... I'm just not sure.

We also have to remember we have a perfect view when the guys with the ball likely only have a good view of half the court and are processing a lot of things in real-time.

Sometimes early in the clock with no passes.

Those are the ones that kill me... seems like they do a your turn my turn thing. Quin needs to get together with these guys and figure it out. It is solvable so that's the good news... then we can move on to solving the bench issues.

I just do not understand love of floater.... such a low percentage shot. Instead Mitchell should just take mid range jumper, way more accurate. Look at Kawhi for example... killer mid range jumper, you rarely if ever see him taking floaters. Only player who was really good at them was Tony Parker. Don should just stop it for real.

Amen.

Theyre taking floaters because they want teams to respect them to open up lanes for Rudy.
So we are taking the worst shot in basketball by design? Maybe you take a handful if this is the case but to have the top two guys in the league in floater attempts is a super ****** plan.

Before this year Conley was the best at the floater. But then again before this year Conley was doing most everything else better as well.

I do agree that they get a bit tunnel vision and miss the open 3pt shooter and didn't think that it could be because they are really trying to setup Rudy so they don't see the shooters.

Jazz also (mainly Mitchell and Conley) as an entire team, or it feels this way at least, have to be shooting the lowest % in the paint in the NBA. Other teams make contested layups, going at, around or over Rudy none the less, better then anyone on the Jazz.

Donny's little 15 foot pull up jumper was money earlier this year. Seems he's gone completely away for that in favor of the running floater.

I might let Conley take that shot sometimes since he’s had such success with it in the past but Donovan’s has always been **** and he just has so much more physical ability to do other things than to just take the exact shot the defense is hoping you take.

I agree this is a much better shot. Sometimes I think the issue is you want to head towards the hoop to get the Rudy lob... but if they are dropping the big the 15 footer is so much better... I think he could get it off like Kawhi does in the mid-post... you also have the ability to pump fake and draw a foul and it is easier to reset if nothing is there because there is less traffic. I'd almost rather have him stop and pump fake or shoot a short fade away. The runner timing and feel is so hard.

DM will struggle with this a bit because he is a two foot jumper... so he will need to refine his craft and figure out a better option.

I didn't realize we had so little practice time, so this spiral is tough to fix without a little time to coach it up. The 1-4 record wasn't the biggest issue... it was a tough schedule... getting blown out was troubling... Philly also shot the lights out... this is all fixable, but it seemed to hit us all at the same time.
