PG_AB must be laughing at this... he had Len pegged at #1 from Day 1.

1. Cleveland Cavaliers – Alex Len, C, Maryland (7’1, 11.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.1 bpg)

Recent buzz out of Cleveland has centered around Alex Len, Anthony Bennett, and Ben McLemore as targets Cavs GM Chris Grant has started to re-examine. It appears Grant might pass on Noel, who has loads of upside but is very raw offensively and likely won’t play his first NBA game until at least January 2014.

All season long Len has intrigued Cavs executive Zydrunas Ilgauskas with his skills, length, and upside. It appears Ilgauskas may be swaying others in Cleveland to join him on Len’s bandwagon.

It is easy to see why pairing Len with Kyrie Irving could change the fortunes of this downtrodden franchise. Len is a long and lengthy defender who can block shots and rebound, though not at the impactful level of a healthy-Noel.

Len’s signature right now is his developed offensive game in the post and facing the basket. With Irving and Len, Cleveland could have a really impressive pick-and-pop game.

As mentioned at the top of Mock 3.0.1, Cleveland would like to trade this pick for an established player, but the market hasn’t materialized so far. Watch the Cavs closely as they have the ammunition to pull off a large deal or acquire an additional lottery pick. If a deal happens, it will take place closer to draft night. But history shows that it’s very rare for the top pick to change hands.

I agree with a lot of what Wes said. Even though I'd take Schroeder at #14, I can understand why one could see bust potential. I don't see nearly as much bust potential with Burke, however.

I think I was the first to say it. I'd be totally down for Giannis at #14 unless someone unexpected like Bazz falls. He has major upside for a #14 pick, and plays into our "tank for the 2014 draft" strategy since he'll either not come to the NBA next season, or he just won't be a great contributor immediately due to his lack of experience and insane lack of bulk etc.

A talented kid with ample size, showed tremendous growth as a player in the last year, won the Wooden award, and almost led his team to a national championship at 20 years old can't possibly get better. Everyone catch that?

Still remember Gyp pimping out Singleton last year (along with myself). Take his predictions with a grain of salt.

Why doesn't GYP just post it himself?

This is like when a smoker thinks they are quiting tobacco by switching to chewing. They just lying to themselves.

I feel gyp'd.

Burke has great feel, floor vision and the ability to lead a team. He can work off of screens and run plays. He's not uber quick, but he's quick enough.

I do also like McCollum and Giannis. Both could be key pieces.

More response from GypTooth;

Saw some posts. To clarify my Burke hitting his ceiling post. He is smallish and does not have true blow by ability. Quite frankly, I'm not sure there's one good pg in the NBA who isn't one or the other or a combination of both. Rose, Westbrook, Lawson, Paul, Rondo, Parker, Lillard, Irving, Wall, and Deron (to a lesser degree but he also is complimented by great size) all have great explosiveness/athleticism. IMO, having watched Burke about 10 games this year, what I saw was a guy who was working so very hard on every single play to do his thing, whether it be drive by his man to the rim or draw a defender and kick it out, or get a shot off. Now, let's flash forward to the NBA when virtually all of the aforementioned guys are playing him. Can he defend any of them? Can he offensively attack any of them? I see a guy, as committed as he may be, who will struggle, and I would guess be a mediocre starter for 4-5 years and then fade into good back-up role for another 4-6. He'll have a long career because he seems to be a hard worker and gives a damn and therefore I would presume would be a true professional. But he is so very limited imo and will be a bust, relatively speaking in our eyes, of sorts.

The only guy I can think over the last 10-15 years who I could compare him to, who we could hope for him to evolve into over time, would be Steve Nash. They're about the same size. And Nash has never had insane quickness from what I recall, though he still was quicker than Burke. If Burke can become a savant like Nash seemed to be offensively, then that's perhaps our only hope of him being what many on the board pray he is.

Gyp has some wisdom, no doubt. With a weak darft, I think we all need to temper our expectations. Jazz may not get a starter out of this. What they may end up with is a couple of guys at the back end of the rotation. Perhaps we get a replacement for Watson and a player to take Kanter's old role (4th big). I'm ok with that. Jazz could fill in with a PG on a 1-year deal, bring back Tinsley and sign a 3rd big on a vet-minimum deal. Utah will make their major moves at the deadline with their cap space.

I believe he got banned for the tenth (or so) time, IIRC.

Even I'm having trouble keeping track, which is sad since it's probably like one of my duties, but I believe the deal with Gyp/KOC/Scerpio/I'm sure I forgot 20 more is that he logged on with like two alts. So he got banned and I'm not sure if he's asked to come back. If he has I think Jason gets to pull the trigger on that one.

People continue to ignore Burke's wingspan.

Personally, I think his floor is DJ Augustin, but with much better defense. If we could get 14/6/3 out of our PG with good percentages and defense, then I don't think we have really busted. Of course, DJ's slow-start and brutal defense kept him out of the Pacers rotation all season long-- don't see Burke ever having that problem,

People are also ignoring his mental side to the game. Of the PG's in this draft, he is BY FAR the best leader. By far the floor general.

There are physical measurements, and then there is the mental side of the game...

I hope you're right. I have him as the biggest slider on draft night.
