What's new

Following potential 2013 draftees

I was looking at Chandler Parsons's draft write-ups/college statistics trying to figure out what everyone missed. I really don't know if it's possible to predict such over-playing of draft position. He was a 4th-year player with not much obvious improvement over his career at Florida. He was recognized as skilled and well-rounded, but he shot 55% FT as a senior and his scoring took a dip that year as well. Yet he's blown up not only as a well-rounded player, but also a quality shooter in the NBA.

Anybody intriguing that might end up doing something similar from this year's draft? I have an eye on Andre Roberson (with rebounding and defense as clear NBA-caliber skills) as someone who might benefit from less team-leadership responsibilities and be able to make a big jump in the NBA. But I really have no clue. What are your predictions?

Pretty smart question--you should change your name.

As fans we talk a lot about the misses at the top of the draft like Thabeet, Wesley Johnson, Johny Flynn or Darko. Everyone projected them at the top but were wrong.

But What about Chandler parsons, or Wesley Mathews or Jeremy Lin (or even Milsap to a degree) that were passed on by almost everyone yet have shown they can play. Why were they missed? Why were they able to succeed when Beesley fails?

The Will to Win.

Because that will illuminate everything else that you do.

Looking at Trey Burke for example. What does he have that a similar player with similar physical attributes doesn't have? He's not lightning quick. He's not a leaper. He's not tall.

But he's willing to say to himself "Fack it, this is all I have to work with. But even with this, I'm going to be the best player Trey Burke can be".

You just don't get that vibe from Wesley Johnson, Beasley, Darko... etc

Matthew Dellavedove is the guy I'm lookin at. Also, Richard Howell, Trevor Mbakwe, Isaiah Canaan, Kenny Kadji, Tim Hardaway Jr., Arsalan Kazemi.

These are blue sky type of dreams. These guys were not as highly touted as chandler who was a 5 star recruit. I see players like bongo and Adonis as being the types to work out in the nba because they have skills
that can translate.

Obviously no one expected Parsons to play this well. But on the eye test his shooting stroke was always pure. The real key is he has learned to play NBA level perimeter D.

On Roberson, if he was a 6'9" or 6'10" jumping jack he would have an obvious role in the NBA. But he is 6'7" PF athlete. Not big enough for the 4 and lacks the skills to play on the perimeter.

Good point. But there are also the Farieds of the world who parlay lots of rebounding without great size or apparent skill into a fine career. Is Roberson that much less skilled than Faried was considered to be? He's certainly not quite as big, and so can't really function as a PF. Does Roberson have a great motor? Is he truly a superior athlete (NBA.draft rates him as a 10, but I know to be wary of their info)? Are his lack of skills mostly connected to his shot, or is this lack more general on the offensive end? Has anybody watched any of his games (I haven't).

Pretty much what I was going to say..

How on earth does OKC have another lotto pick? Unbelievable!

I'd be happy with Michael Carter-Williams or Dennis Schroder. If we went with Dennis then resigning Mo would make more sense.
Sign him for 2 years, and let Schroder come along slowly. MCW I'd want to start playing more right away.

Corbin + Mo = Tank job.

I'm fine with that.

I want nothing to do with MCW.

this draft the jazz need to list these qualities and pick players with as many of these qualities.

high motor
bb iq
gym rat
work ethic
doesn't take plays off
defined nba skill

everything else will fall together.
