Following potential 2013 draftees

I think we have to get the best guard or perimeter player we can at #14. There are a few decent bigs in that range, and I think Olynyk will be a decent commodity in the league, but a back-up big is something most teams deal with at the end of free agency or later in the draft.

It bugs the **** out of me, but I think the FO is going to give serious consideration to Carter-Williams and Dario Saric. I'd rather get Goodwin or Caldwell-Pope.

Regarding Schroeder, I think there are a few clips of him dunking aren't there? Either way, Rondo doesn't elevate much, does he?

Most PG's play below the rim. The two exceptions are pretty much just Rose and Westbrook, but time will put those players on the ground soon enough.

My response to Wes' PM to PKM below:

Why the hell do so many people want this kid with our own 1st rounder? I've never seen somebody so quick with so little jumping ability. Watch every highlight. He blows by someone or starts to, and begins his flight (I'm using that term loosely), only to get no more than three or four inches off the ground. Pathetic.

Well obviously he hasn't watched "every highlight" because he didn't watch this highlight below. He was dunking at: 0.13min, 0.45min, 1.38min, 2.28min.

Also I'd rather have my PG having the quickness to be able to break down the defense 1 on 1 like at 1.24min and either dish it out or finish with a floater, than a combo guard as my PG who can dunk it but can never get past his man.

He can blow by guys all he wants in the NBA. It won't matter because he'll get his **** blocked every time.

Well in that was the case Tony Parker would never have gotten drafted, the Spurs would not have won all those Championships and Parker would be outside selling hot dogs outside the stadium instead of where he is now. He's quick enough and crafty enough to make plays once he had his man beat.

He's basically Brandon Jennings with even less ability to finish/jump. You think Jennings' efficiency sucks? This kid's shooting 33% in a mediocre league.

Where is Wes getting Schroeder's stats from? It's not even close to the one I found by google:

https://basketball.eurobasket.com/player/Dennis_Schroeder/New_Yorker_Phantoms_Braunschweig/204078

As you can see with the NY Phantoms, in 2012/13 he shot the ball 44% 2pt, 40% 3pt, 84% FT. Also I don't see Brandon Jennings in this guy's game at all. He looks to set up his teammates first and foremost. He runs the plays. He doesn't shoot unless he absolutely needs to or is completely wide open. Jennings is like the opposite of that.

There's no way I'd touch this kid with a first round pick.

We're talking #14 & #21 picks here man. From talent level I've seen from this kid, he's at least worth #21 pick. Whether or not he's worth #14 that's still questionable at this point we'll have to see whether or not his attitude, work ethics & his shooting checks out.

I can see a team like Dallas with nothing to lose swinging for the fence and grab this guy and pair him with Dirk. Whether or not our conservative bunch of KOC/Lindsey will bite is another story.

I think it's best to cover our bases by drafting a PG this year so we can just take whatever BPA is there next year regardless of position.

We'll do well to get 1 top 10 pick next year, and we need to take whatever stud we can get.

There is a very good chance the BPA in 2014 is a PG though. Hill, Harrison, Smart, Exum are all very tantalizing. Do we then trade this years PG pick for scraps? Teams in need of a PG are few and far between.

Yes, I would draft a PG this year so long as there is a good prospect in our draft range (draft tier). Then we'll have a complete starting line-up all developing together and each with starter-level talent. Next year, we'll take whatever BPA we can get. Regardless of what position that new player plays, someone in our line-up is going to have to move to the bench or get moved. If you think Burks is really a PG of the future, or if you want to draft a guy who can play multiple positions, like a combo guard or combo wing, that's an okay strategy too. Maybe that gives us a little bit of flexibility. But it's nice to have a real PG.

Another factor to consider is whether we can fill our need for a starting PG through free agency or a small trade. It's easy to sit back and say we can, but if you look at the list of people who have played PG for the Jazz, the track record for picking up quality PGs through free agency or trade really sucks.

Another huge factor here is the question of what kind of talent Corbin is capable of coaching. Does he need a real pg? Is he clever enough to run effective plays that don't require a real pg?

BTW, Exum looks like a swingman.

boredom at church got me to put together this scenario

draft schöder, wolters, Carmichael
sign jarrett jack 3 yrs 18 mil
sign oj Mayo 3 yrs 26 mil
trade burks for granger and a pick or something (salary dump for indiana. 1 year contract to try out that knee)
bring over tomic 2 yrs 9 mil 3rd year team option
sign cole Aldrich vet min

jack, schröder, wolters
mayo, Hayward
granger, Carroll
kanter, Carmichael, Evans
favors, tomic, Aldrich

- no killer contracts
- wolters would back up if schröder not ready yet.
- 3 man rotation with Hayward, mayo and granger
- granges defense makes up for mayos
- 3 man rotation with favors tomic kanter. all compliment each other very well
- shooting with jack, granger and mayo
- defense specialist with grander, Carroll, schröder, favors and Carmichael
- enforcer with Carmichael
- it is a well rounded team.

Having a PG that can dunk is easily in the top-5 least important abilities you need on your roster. Easily.

What makes Nate Wolters a NBA rotation PG?

He isn't a particularly amazing shooter, or passer, or athlete, or defender, or anything.

He will probably be like Ben Hansborough.

Enough with the Jarret Jack talk already. We can just keep Mo if we want a guard who dominates the ball and shoots too much.

Except Jarret Jack can get to the line and not get injured for considerable stretches of every season.

I'm not in love with the idea, either. I'd rather give The Four every responsibility imaginable and fill the roster with borderline NBA players.
