Following potential 2015 draftees

Sure, but I just don't see a player at #11/12 to get excited about. If forced to pick, I guess Dekker or Looney might be a good fit. But it might be more valuable to have a couple of 1sts in a future draft. Then Utah might be able to really move up.

It's interesting, like when we picked Gobert or Hood, they weren't terribly exciting picks.. but DL & QUin have been able to made those picks sing.

Let's not forget they've crapped out with the higher picks. Maybe Utah should trade DOWN! Better chance of picking up a quality player?

Jury's still out on Exum, but yeah with Trey... but then DL was quite clear from the outset that Ty had a lot to do with that pick?

I still see Hood as an 18 - 25-minute per game back-up, at least on a contending team. He might be more than that, but I'm not yet convinced.

Can't use that excuse. Lindsey was the GM. He's responsible for the picks. He could have EASILY decided Schroder would have been better and stayed put. Or drafted Giannis at #14 and used free agency to get a different PG.

Hayward - 35 mins
Burks - 30 mins
Hood - 25 mins.

Jingles and Millsap fill in as needed. Hood doesn't need to be a starter.

If you've listened to DL, you would know that he's very big on getting input from all involved, a collaborative process when it comes to drafting. He credited Ty with the Burke pick. He credited Sloan with the Gobert pick. Etc, etc, etc.

When Ty was still here, DL was new and first year in charge. It would have been silly for him to just say "NO" to Ty who by all accounts had the backing of both KOC and Greg. DL was smart enough to play the long game.

The guy who called the shots before that was KOC. Lindsey came in and worked under KOC before taking over. Ty was not thought of of as a GM/talent evaluator. DL (or KOC) had the final say.

Lindsey put himself in a bad situation by only having Tinsley and Watson as his PG's. He HAD to take a PG and it was a choice between Trey, MCW and McCollum. He boxed himself into a corner. But it's all good. I remember pre-draft rumors that the Jazz liked a big but knew he'd be gone by #14. Utah COULD have been stuck with Olynyk or Adams. Had that happened, I DOUBT they would have also taken Gobert.

Agree with Stifle here. One addition though: I'm almost positive the big that they were high on WAS Gobert. Locke was saying up until the draft that he wouldn't be surprised if the Jazz would pick Gobert at 14.

In other news, Stephen Zimmerman picks UNLV...

Boy, oh boy, is Dave Rice a good recruiter. If Verlin was still here he'd be singing his praises.

I hope we don't settle for a player @ #11 who doesn't have an opportunity to eventually become a starter (PF/C), unless it's for a rare commodity such as a potentially elite defensive (WCS) or stretch (Porzingis) big. Imo, there are 9 players worth taking with our pick: Towns, Okafor, Russell, Mudiay, Hezonja, Winslow, Johnson, Porzingis, & WCS. We certainly have the assets necessary to move up a few spots (or more) to acquire one of those players, & that should be our first priority as this will likely be our last opportunity to acquire another top tier talent. While I do like a lot of the prospects in the #10-20 range, the drop off in talent level from #1-9 & #10-20 is significant enough, & the talent level in the #10-20 range is close enough, that it would be the best use of what will likely be our highest pick in the near future to either trade up into the #1-9 range or trade back (around #20ish), & take bpa, while collecting an extra asset or 2. If Tomic isn't coming over or we can get something of value for Booker, I have no problem drafting a backup big, as it will be an area of need, so long as it's not at #11/12. A small market team, as close to competing as we are, can't afford to not maximize every asset possible & taking a backup player @ #11/12 would not be doing so, unless that player is a special talent.
