What's new

Following potential 2015 draftees

1. Who knows if they haven't actually.
2. This is their jobs and lives. They take this A LOT more seriously than ANY of us ever COULD. They're probably pouring over a quantity and quality of information that boggles the mind.

3. They also have other basketball related operations to think about.

4. Even if they gave some info on where they are at with certain players, it's just as likely as not to be smoke and mirrors. Everything is about maneuvering to get the guy you want, or fleece someone else for the guy they want because they think you might take him first. There's stuff you take with a grain of salt, and then there's a time when you use a truck spreader like they use on the road in the wintertime.

They interviewed DL on the radio and they asked him if the Jazz already have a big board ranking all the players. DL said no, we'll get there, but right now we have not done that. Every dude on Jazzfanz has done that and the Jazz haven't??? We're all guessing what the Jazz will do when they haven't figured out what their gonna do.

He said they don't want to build a board that early, before they've started the final discussions with each other and before they get all the information for the prospects(i.e. all the tape, all the interviews, individual work outs, etc.), because they don't want to fall victims to certain cognitive biases (like confirmation bias, recency bias(said they are watching video not in chronological order to avoid that one too), etc.) in constructing their big board. That's actually a really smart move and should be taken as a huge positive, rather than as a sign of neglect or lack of seriousness in the draft process.

Even if he can only make it to this . . .

then I think we'd be PRETTY DAMN HAPPY to have him. I'm not counting on anything, but I'm really hoping that the Jazz are targeting a trade up with Denver, Detroit or Charlotte to get one of Hezonja, Johnson or Porzingis. I don't think any of them fall to 12, so the Jazz are going to have to pay something to go up to get one of them. I really do think that one of those 3 guys will fall into that range AND they each have All-Star potential if they're developed correctly.

Is there any reason more people aren't clammoring to get Carroll back besides his age?

Age and cost. He's a guy that would improve team chemistry, AND he has proven that he's a strong starter on a playoff team.

If I thought that the Jazz could get him back, I'd gladly see them spend to do it. They never should have let him leave in the first place. Had he been extended back before the tank, I think that they'd be pulling out all the stops to retain him. They should at least inquire to see if he'd be interested in coming back. It kicks both Burks and Hood to the bench, but so be it.

I'm not sure that the Jazz have the cap space to pull it off without giving up Trevor Booker, and Junkyard Dog is going to have a LOT of suitors clamoring for his next contract. He's still not yet 30, so I could see him being a solid starter for the next 3-4 years easily.

Gobert, Favors, Carroll, Hayward and Exum would be an incredibly long and aggressive starting 5. Imagine how solid they'd be on defense, without losing anything offensively. I love how Hood played down the stretch, but Carroll is the better overall offensive player. Round out the bench with Booker, Hood, Burks, Jingles, Burke, the 2015 pick(s), Lil'Sap and Cotton. . . I'd like that team a lot.

This year's Carroll is a better offensive player than this year's Hood, but Hood could easily overtake him in the next couple of years when it will matter more. I think Carroll is better on Defense than Hood will ever be, however. It is hard to argue with the probable production with Hood at his price though. . .

I'm totally with NAOS on this one, but Burke is unnecessary. The Jazz have FOUR ballhandlers withOUT him. What they don't have is a defensive specialist or a guy whose main offensive value is floor-spreading and hustle baskets.

I don't disagree with anything said here. Great post. I think that cost really is going to be the major factor keeping the Jazz away. They have a huge hole at backup C, and I can't see them paying 8 figures for a guy (awesome as he may be) that might jack up the salary structure that they've been building. I'd be all for it, but unfortunately I don't see it happening.
