Following potential 2015 draftees

OK Guys, so looking back at the '14 draft, guys that have outplayed their draft spots are Elfrid Payton and Zach Lavine, both athletically gifted guys. Guys that have struggled so far is Stauskus who was drafted largely based on their shooting ability.

So... when in doubt go for a player with an athletic upside?

I don't think you can draft based on absolutes like that. Remember when those teams passed on Curry because his athleticism was questioned? Jan Vesely, Tyrus Thomas, and Joe Alexander were also picked for their athleticism.

I guess I'm talking more of a late lottery situation where it's really a crapshoot.. shooting is something you can teach, athleticism less so... someone should compile a stat of picks #10 - #14 who were picked, who was successful, etc.

Paul George was picked based on his athleticism & defense, no? His shooting was improved in the NBA, iirc. Elfrid Payton and Lavine were not picked for their shooting ability. Olynyk picked for his shooting but isn't a starting PF material... Adams picked for his athleticism & rebounding and is doing well.

And then there's the Greek Freak.

LaVine was a good shooter in college at about 39% from 3. Shooting ability is one of his strengths in his draftexpress vid. He's done a lot better in Minnesota playing shooting guard instead of point guard like he was at the start of the season.

Ah ok, wonder why he fell to #13, sounded like he was a pretty good prospect.

this comment is asinine. stauskas has been playing great basketball since Corbin was fired.

the draft is like shooting a shot gun at a target. the farther away you get the harder it gets to hit the bulls eye but some times you do. there have been just as many if not more people that never panned out that were drafted on athletism only. I trust the jazz scouting and DL.

Yes, let's take a sample size of 3 players after 1 year to make our decisions. Those KKK ideas.

Lavine has potential but he has not "outplayed" his draft position yet. He is still potential. Jordan Clarkson has outplayed his draft position. Elfrid has been good, I dont know that when this draft is redone he would go much higher than 10. Hood and KJ might move up if this draft is redone.

But really this draft is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy to early to redo.

Or don't try to evaluate players after their first year in the NBA isn't even finished. Go look at the stats for rookies on ESPN.com to see the shooting percentages (Jazz have 3 of the top 10 3 point shooters by percentages which is an interesting side note). Everybody stinks at shooting as a rookie. The top 4 haven't even played a third of the season. Then next 2 are C that are shooting about 45 %. Only 4 guys averaging over double digits (of those qualified). Give them time.

Also, considering that Parker, Embiid, Randle and even to an extent Vonleh have all been limited by injury. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early to redo this draft, although a few players would jump up, while others would drop.
