Following potential 2015 draftees

A lot of people think Johnson is not going past 10. Miami is not taking a SG/PG/C, they also have a situation with Luol Deng at SF where he might not pick his option and leave. We might need to trade to 9 in order to get Johnson.

#12+OKC2018 for #9? Would you do it?

Based on the fact that I have heard Dennis Lindsey talk about just wait until Dante is 22 in two separate interviews, I think the Jazz are targeting being contenders in 3 years. So giving up future draft picks probably doesn't make sense yet. This year is about finding out about the Favors-Gobert combo, can Alec Burks be a starter on a contender, is Trey a winning NBA player and Is Dante going to do what we all expect. If we get the big pieces in order then we can use our draft picks to fill in the gaps.

For Johnson, Yes

Johnson fills an already known gap. Get him now, and he'll be ready for when our title window opens.

Picking a great long-term option now(compared to OK option) helps 2-3 season in the future too. It gives us time to figure out the wing rotation by the time Dante is ready. Giving up 2018 pick now and developing a young prospect on rookie contract for a couple of years helps us more in 2018 than keeping it for 2018(and trading it then, or picking it then). I think most of those picks will be used as trade assets, anyways.

But you can only have so many players, and only play a percentage of those players real minutes. The Jazz are flush with mid/low-level tradable assets. AND, the team needs time to develop and gel together. Contenders aren't looking to their late 1st round pick to just step in and be a significant piece. The Jazz need to make some very smart moves this offseason because it more than most will shape the ceiling of this team.

Utah wants to win sooner than 3 years, because Hayward has a PO after 2. That doesn't necessarily mean they will go all in immediately, but I'd say we're definitely at the point where we will burn some draft picks if the right deal comes along.

In a nano second... No matter who was there. That OKC pick should be viewed as a couple second rounders because of the protections on the pick.

It will likely cost us our first rounder next year... I'd do it. It makes sense for us to consolidate draft assets if it allows us a better shot at a blue chip prospect.

If they did it it would likely be on draft night and only if Booker was available for us at 12 IMO.

Every time I visit the nbadraft.net they have us drafting Sam Dekker. They seem so intent on the Jazz drafting him. It's been updated like 3 or 4 times and still no change. I mean, I like Dekker but I feel he ain't our biggest need since we got Hood that's better.
