Following Potential 2018 Draftees

The only silver lining to Locke's thoughts are if it's hinting towards KBD.

He's spreading generalities and mis-information. He can't completely ignore the draft, since his job is to cover the Jazz every day. But he can't reveal anything. His job is to manage fan expectations. Especially in the past few years, his draft coverage has been superficial at best.

I'm surprised how forthright Walt Perrin is in some of his comments. He basically admitted that Simons' skill level is better than players normally available at 21 in the draft, and he had some positive comments about Okobo as well.

@Saint Cy of JFC you said you've watched like... 5-6 games of Okobo. I've only seen 2. Tony Jones asked him about his playmaking and I've heard others question it. Have you noticed anything to worry about in that aspect? From what I've seen I cannot fathom how someone can watch him and have questions about his playmaking and decisionmaking. I felt like was damn near perfect in his reads and very accurate with his passes. I would put it very firmly into the strengths category. My question is - did I catch the two weird games where he was unusually great making reads and decisions with the ball in his hands and passing teammates open, or is this some old worry about his game that he's rectified?

Okobo is very steady. He plays under control, doesn't get rattled or sped up and makes confident decisions. He seems to have the cerebral part of being a point guard in tact. I think he's viable. The only thing that seems to be missing is a burst of speed to attack the paint. I haven't seen that from him yet, though he looked pretty explosive in his pro-day workout. Also, I haven't seen much of an in-between game with floaters from him. It sounds like he shot the ball well today though. Walt said he did the best in the Jazz 100 shooting.

In the games I watched he was breaking the paint on a whim. He was going wherever he wanted with the ball in his hands, but I can see what you mean as him not having the best burst of speed. But IMO he has enough wiggle and good enough handle for his peed to be good enough to create offense. Also - agree with the rest of your post too - not sure about in-between game and very impressed at his poise and the pace and control he plays with.

If you guys are hyping up Okobo then, I'm totally okay with it too. Last year, I was against drafting Mitchell since we needed shooters like Luke Kennard which I was hyping up for the Jazz to draft. lol But still, I like Donte and Lonnie for the Jazz tho.

So Locke has been spot on in calling who the Jazz will draft over the last five years or so, by continually hyping a player. He hasn't been obvious this year with who he loves, has he? In other words, there isn't some guy Locke is always hyping this year, is there?

Also, I'll be livid if we draft Brunson. Livid.

I feel like he isn't as involved this year in terms of looking at prospects himself because of his podcast business. Usually at this time he's made draft breakdown pods/vids of individual guys. This year seems like it could go either way with a huge group of guys being in one tier. Also with Locke saying to look at guys who will stick around in the league and Perrin saying they want a guy with huge upside. Don't know what's a smokescreen and what isn't.

Y'all think we'd be getting in all these guys for workouts if it weren't for DM45~!

Everyone knows that no prospects had ever come to workout for us before Mitchell got here.

I don't see the Jazz drafting Jalen Brunson or any other pure PG at 21. That player would just end up in the role Neto is currently in for multiple years most likely. I'm fairly certain that we will keep Dante this summer. I would say that odds are good that we re-sign Rubio next year too. Why would the Jazz use the 21st pick on a 3rd PG that lacks position versatility? Not very good value. I don't think DL would make a decision like that.

Okobo could become the PGOTF. He wouldn't be the 3rd guard. Also, the Jazz might play Exum off the ball as much as on the ball.
