Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I dont think Beringer moving up so fast is a sign of how weak the draft is overall. There just arent any rim runners in the draft outside of Malauch (I guess Newell, but I think he sucks and he's the kind of player who cosplays as someone with more potential/shooting rather than focusing on meat and potatoes) . That archetype is pretty safe and a lot of teams really need a backup 5 right now, or someone they think can develop into a backup 5/starting 5.

I've seen Byrd and Clifford (nos 38 39) play in person this season and am not sure either has a game that translates to the Association. Great college players in a middling college league.

That's my reasoning as to why it's a weak class. I don't think it's crazy to think the he could go lottery, but that's because of how weak the depth is of this draft and I would not consider him a lottery quality prospect in any other draft. There really aren't meat and potatoes players, so sure....might as well go for a moldable ball of clay and theoretical player like Beringer. The bar isn't set very high.

He looks like a good athlete and he just started playing ball, but it's not like he has freakish measurables for a C. I don't see him very differently from Chomche last year. I think he has a long way to go, and it's not exactly shooting for the moon to be looking at a potential backup C.

He's leagues better than Chomche as a prospect.

Based on? Really not much to report on with Beringer yet, he's barely played and it's not like he's producing a ton when he does. He's 6'10, 7'4 wingspan, and appears to be a decent athlete playing against low level competition. Can't really tell much about his defensive instincts and awareness which will be the most important thing for him. I don't think you're wrong in saying that he has the potential to be a backup C, but that's not exactly what you think of in the lottery.

Much better instincts/IQ and doesnt try to be a shooter. Better athlete and has higher competition experience playing the role he's going to play in the NBA.

Theoretically, he can guard 3 or even 5 positions, and he should be as viable a rim-runner type as Asa Newell, who is often talked about as a mid 1st-rd prospect or even higher. He does have a way to go, both physically and skillwise. I think of him more as a big who will get taken in the 20s and onward. If he shows shooting touch in workouts, that will help his cause.

He has a few offensive signals that compare with Daniel Gafford at Arkansas, but you'd be drafting him based on projection mostly.

Newell is a million times more skilled at the moment, but I get why Beringer is in the conversation. I think it’s just a poor reflection of a draft if at the end of the lottery you’re looking at guys who are both very far away with the hope of being a backup/role player.

I’m not really seeing Beringer as some kind of defensive savant or elite level defender. Yes he is young, but that’s not an automatic indication he will has a high level of feel/IQ/instincts. Looks like he just started playing ball on film, it can improve but how much? Doesn’t really pop as an elite athlete to me on film either. He looks like a good athlete with a good frame, but there are levels to this. Physical attributes also don’t automatically mean you can defend well. Like you said, it’s just a projection at this point he doesn’t have any meat and potatoes to his case.

I would go with Newell at this point, but I think whoever I have in that 8-14 range I will feel like they aren’t up to standard for a late lotto pick. Newell is theoretical as well, but I see more potential for him if he can add more shooting and perimeter skill.

I’d have Essengue ahead oh him as well, but I do understand the appeal of Beringer who has a more defined role even if he’s further away.
