Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

UtahJazz.com has a couple interviews up from today's workout. A few things Perrin pointed out:
** They felt lucky that they got all these prospects in on the same day. They thought the holiday weekend was a factor in getting everyone together.
** They organized the workout with 4 bigs in one workout and 4 wings in the other, so the guys at the same position could compete head to head.
** Okpala is more of a slasher right now and needs to work on and gain confidence in his outside shooting. Apparently, he hesitated on a few looks from distance.
** Windler shot the ball okay, but not as well as he or the coaches expected. Seems like they've scouted Windler a fair amount. They know his big games and the stats he's put up.
** They think many of the guys they worked out today are in their draft range and think "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" at that stage of the draft.
** They wanted to get the bigs out of their college system and see them play on the perimeter. Mfiondu shot the ball pretty well apparently. Grant Williams has increased his range. Naz Reid they'd seen play on the perimeter at LSU.
** Sounds as though Claxton is seen as younger and a bit further behind in his development compared to the others, though I may be reading into what Walt said.
** He didn't say anything directly about Louis King or Ignas Brazdeikis, but he wasn't asked about those guys specifically.

I don't think the Jazz would draft Claxton in the first round. He's purely a paint player right now who needs to add some strength and bulk to play down low. He's bouncy and has good timing on some blocks, but I don't see what he gives us that Tony Bradley doesn't. Bradley is bigger, longer and more polished at this point. Claxton looks like a 2nd round pick, or maybe a guy who should go back to school.

I think today's workout for bigs was mostly about seeing Kabengele work out against Grant Williams. I think both those guys are in play at #23. I'm not sure what to think about Naz Reid, but I think #23 would be a bit early for him. The more I see of Reid's defense, the more he looks terrible....like James Harden bad. Just bad effort and almost no timing or instincts defensively.

I like Wright-Foreman. We need a healthy point guard and he averaged 33 ppg his last three college games including 29 vs NC State in the NCAAs. Give Spidey some help.

Reportedly, the Jazz have workouts coming up with Luguentz Dort and Brian Bowen. They're trying to get Cameron Johnson from UNC in, per Tony Jones.

This is hilariously inaccurate.

Naz Reid looks good to me. Not the fastest or highest jumper but his highlights show he has amazing hands... finger rolls, push shots, hooks, deep threes, reverse layups, dribble-drives, turnaround jumpers, etc. Pretty unlimited in the way he scores. If he had speed and could jump he'd be crazy. He does look like he could benefit from losing weight.

The vast majority of his scoring is within 8 feet. He did shoot 28% on 3s with 2 attempts per game, if that's what you mean by hilariously inaccurate.
Yes, but he isnt a paint player. He was the closest thing to a PG Georgia had. He does a lot of perimeter ball-handling and playmaking. Isnt anything like Bradley.

He's easily one of the most "talented" offensive players in the draft, but he sucks at a lot of stuff and doesnt play hard. Would be an upside pick with a high probability of flaming out.

Yeah he looks spaced out while getting back on D. Maybe being around Rudy and Donovan would snap him out of it. The Jazz might need to take a risk this time. It's a high pick anyways, might as well take a gamble.

I mean, Reid is a 5. I dont think he can play any 4 due to defense. It wouldn't be a good pick for Utah.

Claxton is a better high potential pick because he's more of a 4/5 who can defend on the perimeter.

I haven't followed this draft... but Claxton looks like a pretty good gamble too. He reminds me of Brandon Ingram in body type and the way he moves. Their draft profiles are kind of similar, with Ingram being a better shooter.

Looks like he's high-character and as a bonus he could be a great 6th man on our all-beautiful team.
