Max money is for...........
Eric Gordon
Rudy Gay
Carlos Boozer
Rashard Lewis
Gilbert Arenas
Joe Johnson
Amare Stoudemire
Yes...definitely all mistakes. But at least these players were once all-stars (except Eric Gordon, although he did have an all-star-like season in 2010-11 averaging 22 ppg). You could even throw Kirilenko into this mix of names.

So paying max for a guy like Hayward that hasn't done jack **** in the league would be a totally incomprehensible mistake beyond belief.

OKC could not afford to keep Harden.
Houston is now in the same situation.
It will push their limits to get Melo and then keep Parsons.

Cap will be at $63.2M with the luxury tax at $77M.

Howard = $21.4M; Harden = $14.7M. 'Melo could get a max deal of 4/$95M from Houston. So let's put in $22M for Year 1 with 4.5% raises. Let's say Parsons gets 4/$40M with $9M in Year 1 and 7.5% raises.. That's $67M, leaving 9 more players at $1.1M each to fill the roster before the Rockets hit the tax threshold. I'd say it's likely 'Melo and Parsons both give up some cash, though, especially in the first year. They could fit a roster under the tax threshold. But I think Houston would be willing to exceed it for a legitimate shot at a title. If they don't get one, Howard is off the books in 3 more years.

BTW, I didn't include Lin because Houston says they already have a deal in place to dump his salary (I'd guess Philly but Utah is also a possibility).

If I know that HOU is working under those restrictions then I'm gonna throw one of them 'poison pill' offer at Parson averaging out at approx. $12m per year.

U know the same thing HOU did to acquire Asik?
Those contracts are for free agents with only 1 or 2 years of service time. Parsons is not eligible for a contract like that. Further, he's not obligated to sign any offer sheet with the Jazz. Finally, the Rockets match a Parsons contract for $12mm per year without blinking.

Parsons is not signing a contract until the Rockets either Sign Melo or realize they won't get him.

If they sign Melo........Parsons can be had. Until that time we just don't know.

Don't know if I am posting on the wrong thread. How about trying to get Evan Turner from Pacers (no matter if Hayward stays or not)?

didnt the Pacers go into a free fall as soon as they traded for Turner? I'll pass. Rather go after Parsons instead.
