Free Agent Rumors Thread

Just heard on espn after the Lebron decision that the Jazz could be a landing spot for Lin with Houston trying to clear cap space. Just speculation on their part, but we could be a team that the rockets could deal with who could take on his contract.

Hmmm...I thought the Rockets had made a deal with Philly. Made Houston offered a 1st to do the deal, but the Sixer's demanded a 2nd-round pick instead. :p

I think Houston has to strip down their whole roster other than their main guys to do this. Jones, montejunas, Beverly might be available and I'd be interested. Don't think we can do Lin though... Too much actual cash to be paid for a third string PG who might be better right now than the two guys In front of him.

Scratch Beverly... His salary can't be much more than a minimum cap hold would be.

It's tight, but Houston can fit Bosh under their cap by dumping Lin (agreement in place with Philly?) and Asik (already done) and making just a few tweaks. If the contract is really 4/$88M, the first year salary has to be in the $20.5M range.
Howard at $21.4M, Bosh at $20.5 and Harden at $14.7. That's $56.6M right there. Plus cap holds for Parsons of $1M, Jones ($1.6M), Motiejunas ($1.1M), Hamilton ($2.1M), Daniels and Capela ($1M each). Assume all others are renounced and replaced by minimum roster holds (3 at $500K). That's about $66M against a cap of $63.1M. Shouldn't be too hard to find a team willing to take on $3-$4M in salaries. Then they match for Parsons and are just under the luxury tax threshold of $77M.

Reportedly, they're giving up a future first to Philly for dumping Lin. Wonder if they's give up another 1st in 3 years if we took whatever other salaries they wanted to sacrifice, allowing them to sign Bosh and keeping them under the tax. Of course, they could also move those to Miami or LA Lakers.

You may be right. I thought Houston could fit Bosh under their cap by just dumping Lin and Asik, but I don't see how. If the contract is really 4/$88M, the first year salary has to be in the $20.5M range.

Someone smarter than me (not hard btw) on Twitter had mentioned this. Either pelton or coon... Woj also tweeted that they need to clear the decks of everyone except their main guys.

Would love to see us get Jones for a second rounder... Or for the last time.... Tomic's draft rights. Wouldn't mind montiejunas and Beverly would be really interesting too.

The best part is everyone has Morey by the balls because they know he has until Sunday to figure this out.

I just did a reproject and edited my post. They only need to make a few more minor tweaks beyond getting rid of Lin, renouncing their exceptions and releasing their non-guaranteed players. Easiest moves would be to trade three of the following: Hamilton, Jones, Daniels or Motiejunas (or even Capela).

Jazz could definitely step in and offer a 2nd for three of Jones, two of the others and a future 1st. TO me, that sounds like a fair price for a salary dump. Morey HAS to make the move and he has to deal with Philly or LA to get them to take Lin. He's under the gun so it's a buyer's market. Heck, I might go for broke and ask for Jones, Daniels and Capela in exchange for a 2nd round pick.

I think they have to do more than that but I appreciate that you did the math. I read somewhere that they may not get there even if they got rid of everything that isn't harden or Howard so bosh won't get full max but close.

They also have a cap hold with Capella until like September ... Not sure if you included that.
