What's new

Friday Jazz VS Blazers 7pm MT

I was thinking about this and after that Blazers game I think the Jazz have mire oppotunity to use the possesions tgat Enes used on threes more and this will open up the game a lot. And also, defense is hustle. When they see Rudy and Trevor they all labor for it and i that psychology they put more and more effort.

This psychology thing could be legit. It could be a combination of Quin's guidance and focus, but I also think, once you have someone on your team, who is really dedicated to D and makes such an impact, that that player's teammates begin to take pride in D as well. I've wondered about that a lot lately, so good point AD.

And let it be said, so began the Gobert Era! Go Rudy!

What really gets me excited is that we have handled some high quality teams with a group with some serious weak links: Slow Joe, Milsap long term D leaguer, Exum not ready for prime time, Trey 2 for 19 Burke, and until last night Enes "whats a pass" and "tell again how I should guard the, what do you call it, pick and roll?" Kanter.

It was good to see Jeremy out there again, and played well. I'm excited he'll see minutes for the rest of the season.

Um, Coach Quinn is a good coach. His post game was really awesome last night.

This was Exum's 16th game in a row without an FTA.

Of the 246 players in the NBA that are getting minutes, only four get fewer FTA per minute: Frye, Babbitt, Steve Blake, and Jameer Nelson:

If you haven't figured out this is really just a throw away year for exum then I don't know what to tell you. If he plays the same way next year we will all be concerned. dL himself said exum is a place holder this year.

I wouldn't say Sap is a long-term D-Leaguer. Do you watch his defense? He can guard Damian Lillard. He just needs to learn how to shoot his 3's with more confidence.

He is 27 years old. What's he been doing since college?

Career history
2010–2011 Tulsa 66ers (D-League)
2011–2013 Los Angeles D-Fenders (D-League)
2013 Petron Blaze Boosters (Philippines)
2014 Maccabi Ashdod (Israel)
2014 Los Angeles D-Fenders (D-League)
2014–2015 Bakersfield Jam (D-League)
2015–present Utah Jazz

Facts is facts. Not saying he cannot play, but he is at best a border line NBA guy. And yet Quin has figured out how to use him effectively. The hope would be that we can upgrade him with someone else and be that much better.

And there might be a reason he does not shoot 3's with more confidence, and it might be related to the fact that he has been a D-leaguer all these years: he can't shoot.

Sap is a keeper... Cheap defensive player and decent shooter. Should never be allowed to dribble though.

Many are saying he has Tony allen potential. He plays elite level defense. You are stupid.

While I agree with all the love Rudy is getting on this thread, the win last night was a full team effort. And as a key note, it was LEAD by Rudy and his star-level d. There were a number of instances that I saw in which our "lesser players" were right on the money defensively in their effort and teamwork. Exum was working harder on screens than I've seen him do lately. Also, number of times i recall the team-d rotations were excellent. Burke was working harder on D. And "perennially d-leager Milsap" was excellent overall on D.
.
While I think the Kanter hate on the board is over the top a bit, it is clear that the team understood and possibly had a frustration with Kanter about his D. This view manifested itself last night as "lets ******ing show that we can D-up the best in the league - without any let down." As a ball player, I've witness the UNAVOIDABLE whole-team let down that occurs when one person is an offensive black hole or defensive ole or clueless defender. Last night appeared to be the exact opposite of that. All hands were on deck and in full contribution on the defensive effort. (It was also manifest in the offensive rebounding effort with all the hustle and tapouts. I wouldn't be surprised if QS asked the team to step up the offensive rebounding in Kanters absence.)
.
Truly a monumental game for Jazz nation. Let's hope the emotion can carry on long enough to create real confidence momentum.

Quinn took Carroll from nice role player to elite defender who can hit the three. Millsap the next DMC?

DMC is the next DMC. If there's a spot for Atlanta to upgrade, it's going to be SF. I hope he comes back to Utah this offseason.

Stifle Tower, Booker and the Junkyard Dog? That's a fun energy group of guys.

After dumping Kanter they probably thought The Jazz were going into tank mode - anyway they looked mighty uninspired to me.

I think we just match-up well with them. They have a size advantage over most teams with LA/Lopez.
