Game #10 : Lakers at Utah, Wednesday 01/11/2012 7:00 PM MST

Speaking of Kanters/Favors, I cry every time these two are paired together. With Sap feeling it, Al should have been sat earlier in the 1st so Sap could play alongside one of those two. Then Sap rests when Al comes in. Then Sap comes back. I have no idea why Ty doesn't stagger the minutes. Favors is absolutely horrific as a post option. And Kanter can't do anything other than rebound. So leaving them in there together is pointless.

You make the most sense on this board. Please post more.

We shot 38% from the floor. Zone defense still gives us fits.

Hayward 1-7
Harris 1-7
Watson 0-4
CJ 2-6
Burks 1-4
Al 5-17

Rebounds were even
Jazz only had 11 turnovers, Lakers 17

We held the lakers to 12 points in the 4th quarter

Here's to hoping we figure out how to break a zone. Also it was painfully obvious that Kobe was going to take a lot of shots at the end. I thought we should have doubled him a bit more.

It looks like the move to develop the youngins in on the back burner: Favors getting about 15, Kanter 9, Burks 0 to 5. And yet the whole first team was negative on the plus minus, none of the second team was negative.

Burks does not play within the offense. He gets the ball and immediately goes 1 on 5. That's why he's not playing much.

Favors and Kanter just aren't developed enough yet to deal with Gasol/Bynum who both played a huge minute total. I do think Kanter should have played a little more in the 4th to tire out Bynum and give AJ some more rest.

With some more court time together this Jazz team should clearly be better than LA, providing Hayward breaks out of his funk, slump or whatever it is.

Kanter wasn't giving us much offensively but he kept Bynum away from the paint and off the boards. Big Al looked gassed in OT. Maybe Ty should have let Kanter or Favors give Al a few more minutes on the bench at the start of the 4th.

Overall I frustated with Harris refusing to attack the basket. Several times he had a lane and either passed the ball or took a jumper.

Like the one that Watson drew at the end of the first?

That rule is out. You cannot initiate contact on offense if the defender's straight(-ish) up in the air. And good ****ing riddance.

I heard the Lakers announcer say this last night on the Earl play. I don't think they're correct. It's not about being "straight up" or anything like that. The rule is the shooter has to be in his shooting motion to get the foul. He can't initiate contact, then shoot. So if you see a guy go up in the air, all you have to do is be shooting when the contact occurs and you get the foul.

The only reason I can think that Earl didn't get the call is the exaggerated effort he made to get contact. But my guess is 9 times out of 10 a player will get the call if a defensive player leaves their feet.

Here's the ESPN quote:

Also, on drives to the basket, a shooting foul will be called only if contact occurs after the offensive player has begun his shooting motion, not after he has initiated his leap toward the basket.

It's probably been said but I think most of us are expecting too much out of our young guys. I have to remind myself of the first few years with John and Karl. And even then it was still ten plus years before they made it to the finals.

All I know is that I am desperate to get rid of Millsap. Has anyone ever noticed just how short and worthless he is, im sry 2 short 4ever im sory okay

I couldn't disagree more. Are we watching the same team? Millsap is the guy who is contributing and defending. He was able to control Gasol a little bit. Al Jeff on the other hand was worthless last night. If you want to get rid of a big, at least make it the big that won't move the ball or defend the paint.

So you want proof that MK11 didn't have any effect on the game.
Look at the box score: MK11 had zero points, rebounds, turnovers, fouls, assists, minutes, steals, etc etc.

I just proved it... you idiot.

I know Harris hit a game-winning shot recently, but the offense was much more in rhythm in the fourth quarter with Earl running the show. If anything, Ty could have put Earl and Harris on the floor for the fourth quarter together, at elast for the last 2 minutes.
