Imagine having a friend. Now imagine having a friend that had a kid, and you were a part of her birthday parties, and seeing once or twice a year. Whenever asked about, your friend tells you how well she's developing a hook shot. How her jumper is shaping up. How much time she's spending working on her game.

Now imagine just a day shy of her birthday(you forget which at this point), the party was cancelled because she was caught nailing the boy next door on the sofa you sit on when you came to visit.

Kinda breaks the image you have of her pretty fast. Not a death sentence, shouldn't be a scarlet letter thing, just a sudden jerk into realizing she's a developing human, not just an add-on your friend decided to get.
