Well said. I didn't feel anything when the first dragon was killed either because I was stuck on "ok so this guy runs back to the wall, they send a Raven, Dany gets on the dragons and flies up here....all in about a day and a half? Umm...ok"
Yeah, totally agree that the first dragon dying didn't really get me, either.
Those should have been monumental moments in the series. Ned getting executed was the first indication that this series was gonna be different. His death was shocking and at the same time really drew people into this story. Then Rob dies (along with Catalyn) and it shocked us all over again. Joffrey was another shock. A happy shock, but a shock.
Jon Snow dies. This is the last thing that happens in book 5. Another big TV moment.
Jon Snow is brought back to life with a little hocus pocus, kalamazoo (not in the books) and it was like ok, we knew he'd be back, so he's back, that's nice.
Then Bran's direwolf died (something that hasn't happened in the books) and it was kind of meh. We forget about all that because Hodor dies, which was sad. I have a feeling GRRM developed that scene with the producers in some ways. That was the last big death that had an emotional impact, imho.
Then Rickon's direwolf dies (not in the books), meh.
Then Rickon dies (not in the books) medium sad.
Littlefinger dies (not in the books) and it was nice but not as satisfying as it could have been. And it bugged me that Sansa passed the sentence but didn't "swing the sword" as is the tradition for House Stark.
