Gauging Devin Harris' Trade Value

Harris to Portland for Miller and Matthews is what I want. Assuming we draft Knight, Miller would be perfect for 20/per to mentor Knight. I would be in love with a backcourt of Knight/Matthews/Hayward. All high character guys. Plus I think having Miller instead of Harris may even improve our team not counting Matthews.

Hello all, long time lurker--first time poster here.
Just wondering what you guys think about Devin Harris.
Presently and long-term.

Recently read a rumor where the UJ Management was open to trading him.
Is that how the fanbase as a whole feel, as well?
What would you want in return? How about a package including Roddy Beaubois, a late 1st round pick, cash and Brendan Haywood from Dallas (which works under the current CBA)? I mention Dallas because Harris himself has said he considers Dallas his home and the Mavs have been rumored to been wanting to bring back their former team captain for a while now.

I don't buy the "long-time lurker" part.

I get trading Harris if we get a better PG back, but otherwise I'm very down on the idea. I can't imagine KOC is working any deals for Harris that doesn't include some kind of respectable PG since we have absolutely nothing in that department once he's gone.

If KOC really is dead set on taking a PG at #3 then Harris is gone inevitably and we're just talking about a question of when.

If the Jazz got Philly involved (since that's KOC's favorite trade partner), we could bring in Roddy B, a re-signed JJ Barea, and Andres Nocioni (who really has an expiring deal since his last year is a team option) for Harris while sending Haywood on to Philly since they basically don't have a center. Add low-value draft picks and cash to taste.

I'm not interested in that trade without a pick.

For the record, I don't dislike Devin Harris. In fact, I think he'll play WELL next year. I think trading him will likely result in fewer wins for the Jazz next year (unless they get Miller&Matthews). It just makes more sense the year after next, and the year after that.

I think any 'resigned' player is a deal killer without a CBA. Right now, trades have to bring in guys under contract. And I think Dallas is basically stuck with Haywood.

The only megadeal I could conceive of with Harris would be in a package to Indiana for Granger/Collison. Harris goes out with somebody like Al (and ancillary stuff I'm sure.) But unless you know you're getting a promising big in the draft, I'm not sure it would be worth it.

Was Harris really a team captain in Dallas? Maybe I don't know him, but he doesn't seem to have strong leadership skills. He did a radio interview a couple of weeks ago, he was asked what the Jazz players were doing to get together for practice and conditioning in the offseason and if he was organizing any players training. His underwhelming response was:" Yea, some of the guys are getting together, I guess as the pg the responsibility falls to me, so yea we'll do something."

I don't want a pissed off, angry guy who yells at his teamates and chucks balls at the rookies heads but could we have just a little bit of fire?

YES, he was named a Captain in Dallas, along with Dirk.
His college coach, Bo Ryan, also said he was one of the greatest leaders he'd ever seen and a natural coach on the floor.
Maybe his hesitation in Utah had to do with being the new guy and trying not to ruffle any feathers. In addition to being a great leader, the Devinstator is also the personification of humility and respect.

This is good stuff, friend.
I like the idea, but Philly will likely want to dump more salary if they are taking on Wood's lengthy contract.
How interested is Utah in Iggy? Anyone else on Philly's roster?

Sadly enough, Spencer Hawes probably interests me the most of anyone on the roster not named Jrue Holiday. But he's an RFA so that won't work.

Cavs are taking Irving #1, Wolves already have a bajillion PGs including Ricky Rubio so doubt they take him at #2
I think Knight will be there for the taking at #3 for the Jazz.
Do you really think Knight will be as good as Devin Harris one day tho?
