Gay marriage in Utah put on hold

I do not believe that our hormones have anything at all to do with our mood or the way we behave toward others.

I would have no trouble accept that hormone levels influence aggression, if there were evidence for it. I accept that we have evidence for. To my knowledge, the sum of the evidence does not connect the two.

So what do you think about this trend to gay-ify our lives until it appears that everyone is gay and only the weirdos have heterosexual thoughts at all?

I think you are taking a few select examples and exaggerating their significance, reach, and influence. Can you name two lead gay characters from a Hollywood movie in 2013? If we go through all of network prime time, how many shows have even two gay characters?

You've never seen Modern Family, have you?

I assume you are only counting studios that are free/non-cable like ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS shows?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dramatic_television_series_with_LGBT_characters

Glee - CBS
Modern Family - ABC
Dracula - NBC
Under the Dome - CBS
The Carrie Diaries - The CW
The Following - FOX
Camp - NBC
Chicago Fire - NBC
Scandal - ABC
Smash - NBC
Once Upon A Time - ABC

Ringer - The CW
Dance Academy - ABC
Gossip Girl - The CW
Reaper - The CW
Dirty Sexy Money - ABC

This is just prime time basic networks. ABC is by far and away the "leader".

If you go to the link and look at the entire list it is quite extensive.

15 shows is more than I thought. Not really pervasive, though.

So, along the lines of this topic, but on a tangent. Has anyone noticed how strongly "gay is ok" is being pushed in media right now? My wife and kids watch several shows, including Glee and The Fosters, in which gay lifestyle is not just celebrated, but almost posed as the norm, with straights rapidly being in the minority. In Glee, which has to be the singularly stupidest show ever produced, they now have somewhere around 8 fully out and committed gay couples in a small high school in Ohio, and much of the show centers around their relationships. In The Fosters it is a story about a lesbian couple raising a family.

When you think of it like a straight person, yeah. There's a huge gay take over that almost makes it the norm.

But when you think of it as a gay person, it's like the world is beginning to accept you for who you are.

And if you look at it like someone that isn't playing sides, you could care less.

My sister in-law is engaged to be married. She is a doctor and her soon to be husband is a firefighter. They are madly in love and have no plans of EVER having a child. Beanclown's assertion that they will never be a family is not only short sighted and dumb, it's downright mean. Not only are they going to be a family to each other, they're family to me and countless others. **** off Bean. And **** off to anybody else who thinks their marriage will be anything less than yours because you have children.

As for the rest of the argument, let's cut through the ********: 99.999% of the time, those who stand against gay marriage do so on a religious platform. Most will dance around that (as has been done constantly through the first 14 pages of this thread), but that is what it comes down to.

Problem is, one of the biggest principals this country was founded on was religious freedom. One religion or group of religions are not here to dictate to the entire country what is right and what is wrong. To try and say religion isn't the overwhelming factor in the fight against gay marriage might just be the most disengenious argument in the history of civil rights.

The religions and morals people practice in their homes and around like minded individuals is their right. To try and gays from having the exact same rights as as those people is so utterly wrong and disgusting it's not even comprehensible. We had those who raged against women's right to vote, we had those who raged against the right for blacks to be seen as equals, and now we have the same group of small minded individuals raging against the rights for homosexuals. Just like the others, when all is said and done, they will be the ones on the wrong side of history. It's a shame it has to take this long, but the outcome is inevitable.

I've also got to give props to Trout and those who share is stance. Major props to the religious people out there who are able to reconcile their faith alongside the belief that we don't have the right to stop others from being equal. It's those type of religious progressives that will eventually help us find our way.

Edit- And please keep in mind, I still hate Trout.

this is not about equality

My wife, who has far more conservative views than I do regarding homosexuals (I believe live and let live, she finds this whole thing somewhat disturbing), feels that this is beginning to "take over", and has some very heavy concerns about my 12 year old daughter watching these shows. I told her that in the end biology trumps hype, but there will always be that very small percentage of the population that is looking to get a rise out of people, or trying so hard to be "different" that is might have some influence on some people. I had a bigger problem with the portrayal of sex in general to be as normal as a handshake with absolutely zero consequences, but that is pervasive on its own.

But it is interesting how this seems to be a thing now. For any TV show or movie to make it there must be a gay presence, even though for the vast majority of people there isn't necesssarily anything like that in their daily lives. I have more than a few gay friends, but none in this area that we see even monthly, mostly acquaintances. I have informally conducted this kind of poll among people I know and other than many of them knowing about someone at work who is gay, most people don't directly know anyone who is gay, or at least who is out and living it openly.

Another thing that I read today that got me thinking about this was an article on gizmodo about CES. They had a section on new hi-tech adult toys. With one of them they mentioned it was designed to be used during man/woman sex, and then added "if you're into that". I am sure it was meant tongue in cheek, but it sure seemed fitting after the discussions I have had with my family about this over the last week. Of course, no one is into THAT any more. That is so first 10k years of human history, it's not "today" man. Today everyone is into anything BUT man/woman sex. What do you think I am, a square?

So what do you think about this trend to gay-ify our lives until it appears that everyone is gay and only the weirdos have heterosexual thoughts at all?

do tell more?

*could not

Was very interested in this international perspective on the church being overly concerned with Utah politics. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/kiwim...ge-or-did-it-just-make-a-bad-situation-worse/

I love me some President Monson, I do, but man I wish I could email him that link. It was a bit over the top, but the overall message was terrific and one that I had never even given a second thought (or first, for that matter) to. What we do in Utah has global consequences. Interesting, to say the least. Thanks for the link.
