The exact same people bitching about this would be bitching if Trump announced he was extending our commitment in the region. We have 2,000 troops there. Withdrawing them won't lead to World War 3, especially as we have a carrier in the gulf. I mean if it is that important to Europe, they can provide the troops and let them be assigned to hot fire zones like our soldiers have been.

We need to rethink our military presence in a lot of areas. I study Russia, I lived in Russia. Russia is not remotely the threat that China is both economically and militarily. If we are extending commitments, it needs to be towards countering China. A combined Europe could handle Russia and they need to be given that opportunity. And for hell's sake, stop buying their energy if they are such an existential threat. We need to act the same with China.

Consider why Russia (really Putin) approves of this move, and our allies in the region don't. It's more in their interest than ours, and that to me, is not sound foreign policy.

If Bush does is its bad. If Obama does it is ok. If Trump is against it then we must do it.

The sudden removal of them with out any warning or forethought for the fate of our allies in Syria will cause them, and others I'm sure as well, to wonder just why it is they are aligning themselves with us in the first place.

This is like kicking out your lazy roomate who cant hold down a job and pay his share. Youve been warning him that you cant afford to take care of him forever. He can see that you have been taking out 2nd mortgages and getting pay day loans to pay the bills, but he still wont make an effort to get a job and just smokes weed all day. This person is your friend, but at the same time you cant let the drowning man pull you down with him. So you just tell him he has 30 days to move out one day.
