GLeague Chit

Let's pop the bubbly the Stars with an OT win vs the Memphis JVs. Flip with the winning point. Cody proved he is a chucker and not a maker in this one. He also had 5 TOs and 5 personal fouls. Tavion Kinsey was the leading scorer for the Stars and I thought was the best player on the floor. Flip with a double double off the bench. Davy Jones, Oscar and Abmas had some nice moments. Armando Bacot was the starting center for Memphis and played Oscar to a draw. I'm not sure Oscar will be an NBA player. He really can't shoot. Cody's warts were front and center and hopefully the Jazz brain trust is putting together a plan to remediate them.

Still had 21 points on 21 shots, so not the worst. Had a good +/-

Maybe he is making progress but his stats are basically the same as former Jazz greats David Stockton and Elijan Hughes despite Cody playing way way more minutes and the former Jazz greats shooting a much better percentage. A season of strength training and a season pass to ChuckaRama would do wonders for Cody.

Sure, but as long as he's out there and the team is winning, I'm pleased. He's trying stuff which is better than being passive. He's rebounding well and getting stocks. The Stars roster isnt very good this year, so he doesnt have much help setting him up vs last year when they had Preston/Potter/Juzang in the G-League for most of the season.

What are stocks? Everybody keeps mentioning stocks. New term to me

The Stars were down 11 to start the 4th and came back to tie it in regulation and Cody was on the floor for most of it so that's a positive. The Stars were without Potter and Collier so you're right about lack of talent around Cody. Flip at times looked great and at times was totally cringe.

I mean more like veteran G-League talent. A guy like Preston/Potter make a huge difference out there as guys who run the offense well. Dont think the Stars have that currently.

Tshiebwe is a very good rebounder, but he doesnt make players better. Same with Kinsey/Justice.

I'm actually becoming less worried about his physical development. He's already starting to show some improvement in that area. It's his shooting that will determine if he is even playable.

To be charitable Tay Henny and Brice didn't exactly light up the GLeague in their time there last season. I'm seeing some baby steps but he does need to improve his shooting. Is Horny still on the Jazz staff?

If Cody can score enough, he can play a Jaden McDaniels defensive-wing role at a minimum. He'll just need to be content to focus on it. If he can't shoot well enough, he'll be doomed to a life in the Gleague like Darius Bazley.

The good news is he is currently setting such a low bar that improving should be easy. With young guys you just want to see some year over year growth and he doesn't have to be close to good to be improved next year.

Wrong. If he can’t shoot he hurts the offense. That’s what we have Kessler for. We don’t need two defensive specialists, that aren’t offensive. I basically said he could be a good 3&D player after summer league, but I didn’t realize he was this bad a shooter. He can’t be Jaden McDaniels if he can’t shoot, McDaniels could at least shoot when he came into the league.
