Go GET Teague

It sounds as if you're trying to convince us to exclude everyone but Derrick Rose.

Not at all, I don't have a horse in this race, just trying to come up with a list of appropriate comparables for Exum ... I think Rubio is a good comparable in terms of height, length, age, body type, not a shooter, both passers, playing the same position, good defenders, etc, but there are also others.

Both also rely on lateral explosiveness not vertical...

Ricky Rubio is still a very good overall defender. Tony Allen didn't lose much if anything either. Lowry, Crawford and Davis have also been mentioned -- Davis was explosive both before and after he tore his ACL.

Also, you have to toss out Rose right away. He's had multiple injuries over multiple seasons, which has almost certainly affected him psychologically.

Again, I'm not saying Exum won't be good, but isn't it prudent to have an insurance policy for him? Also I don't think Burke + GSW pick is too much a price to pay. I mean that GSW pick is looking like the 30th pick in the first round anyway, it's almost as good as a 2nd round pick at this point.

It's like an insurance for your house.. 99.9% nothing's gonna happen but you pay the monthly premiums anyway just in case.

I'm on board with getting Teague if the price is right. Exum wasn't good last year.

Leaving aside questions of what we'd have to give up, and whether Teague for a year and a half is really a useful upgrade at this stage of things, there's two things that I'd like to see more attention given to:

1. Why do we think Teague's happiness/usefulness with us would be so much better than it is with Atlanta? Everybody thinks he would be a short-term hired gun with us. Isn't this precisely the problem he's having in Atlanta -- just running out the contract without expectation of being retained? Why would whatever attitude issues and diminished production he may be having in Atlanta this year be solved by coming to Utah?

2. Why are Jazz fans, for so long having been the enemies of hired-gun veterans taking the development minutes of young players during the Corbin era, all of a sudden so excited with the prospects of Exum getting 20-25 minutes next year? If Exum's development was really that much in need of being taken slow, the Jazz could have let him develop behind the returning starter last year (Burke). And it would have been easy to justify, despite Burke's struggles. But they didn't. Is it all simply about the injury now?

Because I think it's pretty clear that the "Cake" is nearly ready now. With Gobert, Favors, Hayward and Hood now all playing at playoff worthy level, one could argue somebody like Teague could push us over the top and be in that #4 - #6 seeds and start to make some noise in the playoffs this year. Exum on the other hand is an unknown quantity at this point PLUS the question mark over the injury.

Some success this year could go a long way in convincing Hayward and Teague from looking to go elsewhere.

I dunno, what's the stats on guard/wing players coming back from an ACL and being GREAT? Off the top of my head Rubio, Jabari Parker, both of whom haven't looked all that great so far after their injuries. This is something we have to consider also...

Teague also serves as a backup plan in case Exum doesn't pan out.

Westbrook?

Edit: turns out it was a meniscus tear-- sometimes these are worse than ACL failures.

Gallo has been having his best season yet. You're wrong dude.

From an article:

Scarily, meniscus tears are oftentimes more frightening than ACL tears, in spite of the relatively short recovery time. While an ACL tear may keep a player out for up to a year, and a meniscus tear results in half as long to return from, a compromised repaired meniscus can often lead to perpetual swelling and knee pain, sometimes resulting a career-altering microfracture surgery. While an ACL tear can often result in a cut and dry return to action after an extended period of time, meniscus tears can lead to operation after operation as the player in question experiences continuing discomfort – as we’ve seen with Westbrook’s two post-tear surgeries.

I've turned DGAF on this trade. If we pull the trigger then make damn sure it's a Kanter level value trade. Give them one of the late first rounders and a couple of 2nds or something. We can probably absorb the entire salary too, so no reason to add anything else.

This isn't about shopping Teague. This is about getting inquiries for Schroeder, who is much more valuable in a trade because of his contract extension restrictions. Schroe is actually outperforming Teague slightly in per36 stats, and that's playing in the second unit. If you want to chase one of the two then I'd look at what Atlanta is fishing for and hit them up.

Schro is definitely worth a mid-to-late first round pick. Something like giving them the option of swapping first rounders (lotto protected) and us throwing in a decent 2nd rounder or two plus bench depth should be in the conversation.

If they want more, **** 'em. Free agency is coming and it comes with a Kanter sized price tag.
