Yeah, they're obviously expecting to downgrade overall at the 1. Presumably, they'll want an upgrade somewhere else. I don't think a slight upgrade at the backup 1, and a pick at the end of the first round or in the second round makes any sense.

It make sense for Atlanta if it is their best offer for Teague. They have entered Kanter-ville.

Why are Jazz fans, for so long having been the enemies of hired-gun veterans taking the development minutes of young players during the Corbin era, all of a sudden so excited with the prospects of Exum getting 20-25 minutes next year? If Exum's development was really that much in need of being taken slow, the Jazz could have let him develop behind the returning starter last year (Burke). And it would have been easy to justify, despite Burke's struggle s. But they didn't. Is it all simply about the injury now?

They actually did that until Burke was just so bad a change had to be made. And I think it was more for Hayward's benefit, TBH. Trey was taking too many shots and Gordon was pretty invisible in the 1st quarter especially.

As One Love said, Jazz are ready to win NOW! All the other starters are ahead of Exum in terms of skill level. How many minutes did Stockton get his first 3 years? 18, 24 and 23. Learning behind a former all-star (Green) certainly didn't hurt John's career. I think Dante could even learn from Neto. Make Exum EARN his spot through his play. Last season he was horrible offensively, Do we want to risk another season - and possibly Hayward - on the basis of one summer league game? What if the injury has made him timid again? What if he's not able to improve his shooting? Then the Jazz maybe win 46-48 games, are a lower seed in the playoffs, lose in the 1st round and Hayward decides to go to a contender.

This isn't about shopping Teague. This is about getting inquiries for Schroeder, who is much more valuable in a trade because of his contract extension restrictions. Schroe is actually outperforming Teague slightly in per36 stats, and that's playing in the second unit. If you want to chase one of the two then I'd look at what Atlanta is fishing for and hit them up.

Schro is definitely worth a mid-to-late first round pick. Something like giving them the option of swapping first rounders (lotto protected) and us throwing in a decent 2nd rounder or two plus bench depth should be in the conversation.

If they want more, **** 'em. Free agency is coming and it comes with a Kanter sized price tag.

Teague is history in Atlanta. And no way Schroeder gets anywhere near Kanter/minimax numbers.

Exactly. Was Pleiss, Garrett and picks that may turn nto 2nd-rounders fair value for Kanter? Not on face value. DL got robbed. But not really. Kanter HAD to be traded. And OKC's offer was the best one apparently.

And we ain't getting Schroeder. Teague WANTS to leave. He'll be GONE as an UFA after next season. Why would Atlanta leave 'themselves with zero PG's when they have one they like, who is cheap, whose contract they'll control as a RFA? They're not shopping Schroeder.

Further, Atlanta doesn't have such a robust wing rotation that they can't experiment more with Teague and Schroeder sharing the court a little more. While the Jazz waited far too long to move Kanter, the Hawks have until at least the start of next season to move Teague. They aren't winning anything this season either way, and should be looking to get the best return possible.

Off the top of my head, Baron Davis and Kyle Lowry both tore their ACLs before they were even drafted.

So did Khris Middleton. Plenty around here wanted to throw a max at him this past offseason.

Exum should be fine in the long-run. I'd prefer to keep Burks for now, but Burke still needs to be upgraded at some point. If that guy is Teague, then awesome. I think he'd be a great fit.

But the Jazz shouldn't overpay to get him. Miami already gave away Mario Chalmers, and PGs were swapped last year like baseball cards. Wait it out. See what the options are. Put Burke, Booker and picks out on the trade block and see where it leads you.

Not to disagree, just want to point out how hollow and silly it makes all the desperation seem from a few years ago when everyone was insisting that the Jazz were ruining their chance to develop players by making them play behind a veteran.

Still wondering why Teague's attitude would be better in Utah than Atlanta.

But let me throw out a hypothetical (no idea if it might be true): Since Quin has coached both Teague and Dante, suppose DL asks him which of the two he trusts over the long term more -- based on attitude, potential, likelihood of contributing to a long-term quality team, coachability, fit -- everything. Suppose Quin answers Dante. If you're DL, would you still put a priority on grabbing Teague?

I'd put a priority on upgrading Burke - be that Teague, Lin, Clarkson, Delly, Lavine, Russell, etc. - I really just want to see them target an improvement to the PG spot with a guy who can start until Exum gets fully healthy and takes the job away from him. Burke has been a poor fit for the starting unit, but has played well enough off the bench to have some value going into the trade deadline.

Is the difference in the return going to make up for the hit they take this season? Currently I think they'd make the second round of the playoffs... If they move Teague I'm not sure they get that far. Not sure what managements priorities are.

This is a really good take, and I think it disarms a lot of the speculation in this thread.

I'm sure Atlanta is pretty busy wondering what their next steps as a franchise are going to be. They remind me a bit of the Boozer-Williams-Memo jazz, after the writing was on the wall and everybody knew they'd maxed out. Those next decisions don't come easily, and I'd be surprised if somebody as smart as Bud started making hasty decisions mid-season -- especially considering that this team MAY get hot again before it's all said and done.

From their perspective, a trade for Burke and picks makes too little sense, in my opinion. Burks makes more sense, because they could use a wing with Alec's particular style and penchant for drawing fouls, but I understand the hesitations of jazz fans on that trade (considering his contract and role off the bench and in the three-wing lineups).
