How talented the player is matters a lot. The less talented, the more the injury matters. In Burks case it matters some though.

Well, dumbass. Obviously if u can get an injured Durant u do it assuming said injury isn't going to affect his career significantly, but I've seen trades break down due to a player not passing a physical. Burks isn't Durant,

I don't think Burks is a cancer like Kanter, and he's a decent player. But he just doesn't add any value to our team and his interaction effect (making Hood suck) actually doesn't bode well for us in the long term.

Yeah, I like Burks. He has talent, has improved some, and seems like a decent enough dude, a good soldier if you will. But he just doesn't seem to fit seamlessly with the rest of our guys on the court to me. Just an eyeball test.
 
Another question about precedent - When was the last time the Jazz signed a player to a 4 year extension and then traded him halfway thru the 1st season??

We signed him in October of 2014. Maybe this is the first actual year of the extension but we're over a year removed from the actual signing. No biggie.

That shouldn't matter either. Set precedent if you have to. Who cares?

Making the right decision is what matters.

You don't tell a team, hey we can't trade that guy, we just signed him, and we've never never traded a guy we just signed. Sorry we can't take Durant from you. It would just be rude to the other guy.

Win championship. Screw all that other stuff.

Future prospective Free agents might frown upon that.. I don't think the Jazz operate like that for a reason, I'm just a relatively new Jazz fan just asking if any long time fans can recall that sorta thing happening. (same goes for the trading injured players question)
 
Killa Cam Payne, who the Jazz passed on in the draft, in limited minutes this year is shooting 41% from 3, with a 3:1 ast:to ratio, he's averaging 16.3points per 36 minutes and 2.4 steals per 36, seems like a much better contract to trade a package for than Jeff Teague IMO, it's probably equally as unrealistic though..

The Jazz passed on The Campaign, and they probably thought he was pretty good, might be telling about how much they're willing to give up for Teague. I'm not sure if this is as big of a priority as some are making it out to be.

They passed on Cam prior to Exum injury... Not sure it has an bearing on how they feel about the PG situation now. That injury sets Dante back at least one year... maybe two.

No, I don't think they have done that before. They probably won't either.

This is a franchise that isn't anywhere close to being an all or nothing team. They are perfectly content with being just good enough to sell hope. They aren't ever going to go out and make things happen. If it happens it happens. That's not being pessimistic. That's just the truth.

Sorry. I hate to spoil it for you, but your old team the Knicks have a better chance of cashing one in. The Knicks aren't smart, but at least they are trying. They are more likely to get lucky than us.


Here's pretty much what the future holds for the Jazz for the next 5-10 years

They will finish somewhere in the late lottery or 8th seed of the playoffs. They will watch players finish out their contracts and leave. The next average player will step up and fill the void.. They will pick safe players every year in the draft. No significant trades will be made that help the team.

That's pretty much it. Wash, rinse, repeat.
 
I'm mostly ready to trade Burks away, but his drive game is valuable late in close games, and we've been on the short side of those games in his absence.
