Good News -- Another Year of AK47!

Read the quotes:

The pigheaded b.s. around here by supposedly smart guys like One Brow, drives me nuts. Were you ever a reporter, One Brow? You don't go putting quotes on things people didn't say or you can be sued for libel. When the reporter said he backed off, he backed off saying he "will be" with the Jazz. Did he use the word guarantee in that instance? I don't know. I didn't read the earlier interview. But KOC did use it in what is related to the important piece of information: Will AK be with the Jazz this year?

Listen, you may not like me, but I am honest and direct. And unless O'Connor is being misquoted, then you can't contradict what I said. As I said, I based my remark on the quotes from the interview. These are not my conclusions or inferences. These are the words out of the horse's mouth -- K fn OC

Dude, I don't like or dislike you, but you're reading more into what was said than is actually there. You also seem to be prone to thinking people are picking on you when they are actually making perfectly reasonable counter-points to your posts.

Can you explain what the reasonable counterpoint is? Did KOC say he can't guarantee AK would be with the Jazz at the start of the year, or not? Yes, he did. That's all I said from the start. I don't know how you can argue with that. People made posts doubting he said it. So, I provided quotes that showed that he did.

Do I think they are shopping AK? No, not at all. But they will listen to reasonable offers. That's my interpretation.

Well, the reporter put in quotation marks, "will be," so that clearly indicates that KOC made such a statement at an earlier time.

One Brow: Or, that the reporter misheard/misunderstood O'Connor. Or, that the reporter was following up on a rumor he read. Or, that the report was trying to put words in O'Connor's mouth.

One Brow, if the reporter did any of those, he would need to make a retraction, or he could even be sued for libel. Maybe people who write for the National Enquirer of former times did those things, but I'm sure the DesNews has higher standards. Just about any reputable newspaper mgt would not tolerate this.

Also, a reporter might make a mistake with paraphrase, but when he/she is putting it in quotes, you can be reasonably certain that this is what the person said, because if you don't recall or have the direct quote, you don't use the quote marks. Like I've told people here, I've been a reporter for more than 25 years, whether you want to believe it or not, and have taught news and feature writing on the community college level. So I think I'm a good source on this.

Now don't go into talking about Descartes and philosophizing on what is reasonable doubt. Because I ain't Ain't and don't have time to debate you.

McFly, I guess you can quibble with "he will" and "guarantee." He did use the word guarantee. I was paraphrasing his comment about guaranteeing AK would be with the Jazz at the start of the season ...

TICC is a dick, we all know that now, just by his comments.

McFly is asking to be splattered across the wall, like the insect he is.

And One Brow wants everyone to know how smart he is by nitpicking at words and theorizing on the possible deductions one can conclude based on a specific situation.

And I'm not going to back down. I don't quit. But, I may stop posting here because this is a damn waste of my time arguing with these knotheads.

Wow, much ado about nothing.

KOC can't guarantee ANYONE will be with the Jazz on Day 1. I mean, it's reasonable to assume Deron will. I can't see many trade packages that would make sense for him. But KOC's gonna listen to offers for anyone. Even if he laughs and hangs up the phone after 5 seconds. That's his job.

You can probably assume the Millers aren't thrilled about paying luxury tax. What's the easiest way to get around that? Trade AK to a team with cap space so you don't have to take back $17M in return. I'll take KOC at his word when he said he hasn't initiated any trade talks involving Kirilenko. Now that doesn't mean he and Greg didn't give a preliminary approval to the Diaw/QRoss deal. They may have. Personally, I think the deal was VERY, VERY CLOSE to being done. But it had to be done right away. I mean no one is happy right now, not Devin Harris, not Carmelo, and not AK.

But KOC is pretty tight-lipped. We didn't hear anything about the Jefferson deal until it actually went down. Well, we did, but that was Greg blabbing about a big announcement the night before it happened. So everyone, including Gail Miller, could be traded for the right price before Day 1. KOC won't guarantee player A or B will be with the team, even if the chance is pretty high.

Agree. And how long before one of them asks, well it depends on what your definition of "is" is?
