Gordon Hayward: Underdeveloped = Underrated

Did you play competitive sports growing up?

Yep, I did.
Losing one's temper and going after a guy only hurts the team. Laughing in the face of someone trying to get under your skin puts everything back on them. And so would, in this case, hitting a 3 or getting a dunk, just looking at West or Stephenson and giving him a big smile (or wink). They WANT you to retaliate. Do the opposite and it drives them crazy.

I'm Not saying punch the guy out. Go look at LeBrons reaction to when Stephenson touched his face. That's enough. What you don't do is let people walk all over you.

There's more than one way to handle a situation. West clearly wanted Hayward to turn around and start something. Delonte likely would have pushed back and then the two both get ejected. A win for West. Do you think LBJ is going to get ejected?

Had Lance done that to me, I would have laughed and said he'd have to do more than that to get a reaction. Punks like West and Stephenson are just trying to get retaliation. Refs usually don't see the initial incident, but they're quick to give a T and even eject the player who retaliates.

That's cool but Gordo didn't laugh it off. He gets scared, clams up and doesn't know what to do. Sort of like when the pressure's on in-game too.

Mentally fragile. How do you not at least shove the guy or get in his face.

What you seem to be forgetting is a little context.
Hayward was the one getting under West's skin with his play, West was getting bothered and decided to do this to Hayward.
Most players when they start resorting to this crap, end up being a drag to their team.

I don't consider this incident as mental fragility from Hayward, I saw this as one of the things that made me like Hayward more. He was getting under quite a few players from quite a few teams skin. I didn't see much of this last year ( I could have missed it?), and really hope he gets back to getting under players skin.

@quinshair - gordo did not clam up as far as this incident is concerned. It's not incidents with other players that gets into his head, its when he misses shots - which I believe was mentioned by someone else already.

That's the chance Utah would take by not matching.
In the end, I think it's too risky for Utah NOT to match. If Hayward turns into an all-star with better coaching elsewhere, Lindsey loses his job. We had the chance to match. We'd still be under the cap. Jazz can still extend Burks, Kanter and then Burke and Gobert without going into the luxury tax.

Do I think Hayward should get the MAX? Hell, no! But Utah gambled and LOST...BIG TIME! They could have MAXED him last summer for a LOT less ($13.7M). Imagine the melt down on this board had Hayward gotten that much. Instead, the Jazz said, "prove it." All he had to do was impress one team; and he did that with Cleveland. Now he's getting nearly $16M/per for 4 years. But two of those seasons are when the Jazz will be under the cap and would pay the money out anyway (up to the floor). So it's really the last 2 years that matter.

Jazz have 11 days to make their decision. It's going to be interesting.

IF he becomes an all-star. I guess DL should have lost his job because he let Millsap go and he became an all-star.

There is a reason why the Jazz didn't up their offer. They don't think he is worth that type of money. You can never underestimate the stupidity of other franchises, that doesn't mean the Jazz should act irrationally. If you don't believe he is worth the MAX then you shouldn't sign him to the MAX. Again, Hayward is replaceable. He isn't Malone.

It is funny how much crap Karl got for wanting the MAX and now there are more Jazz fans advocating for Hayward? Interesting?

Or because Al Jefferson was 3rd team all-NBA (higher honor than allstar) and even better than Millsap.

I know that these statements are made with sarcasm - but even though millsap made all star and Jefferson made 3rd team - both of their teams were still average and did not get anywhere near contending - just the usual mediocrity that teams with milsapp and Al have always had. I still think that milsapp is a really good 6th man - he is not a PF starter on a contending team imo, unless he is playing alongside lebron.

So there is more reason why DL should be fired according to Core4. My comment was in response to Core4 saying DL should be fired if he lets Hayward walk and he becomes an All-star.

The point had nothing to do with whether Millsap or AL were all-star. Core4 made a statement that DL should be fired if he lets Hayward walk and he becomes an All-star. This is Core4's main argument for paying hayward.. What IF he does this....? I wasn't being sarcastic so much I was pointing out the fact that the world isn't going to end if Hayward becomes an All-star making MAX money in the Eastern Conference. Millsap was my example.
