What's new

Grades from last night....

He's easily the best player on either team. His awkward 12-foot "pull-up" game is incredible. He'll comfortably be a top-10 perimeter iso player in the league this season (especially when you consider his passing ability); the only guys clearly ahead of him are Harden, Lillard, LeBron and Kyrie.

Awkward?

It's a pretty unguardable shot.

Both variations - the slow step to mini-fade and the pivot/turnaround (don't know what to call either one)- are pretty unique in the league. They both look pretty awkward, despite their effectiveness.

Uhh, what about Durant and Westbrook?
Reply #2: I started from the list of players with 100+ iso possessions per Synergy Sports stats. Westbrook wasn't particularly effective last season, which is likely due to both his suspect decision-making and Durant's absence (which necessitated him taking on more offensive responsibility). Durant didn't have 100 iso possessions last season. I agree though, both are better iso players than Gordo. Am I missing anyone else a clear notch above him?

I wouldn't really categorize either as awkward (all seem pretty smooth to me), but sure.
When he pivots into a fall-away it's not really awkward. It's more the ones where he stops on one foot and does the semi-flat-footed fall-away from 10-12 feet that looks awkward to me. I always expect those to be short (and they were until the second half of the 13/14 season), but he's really mastered them at this point. Who else regularly uses that shot?
