Graphic showing all NBA teams play style. Jazz is kind of weird...

We used to be known for ball movement... now it looks like we favor isolation a bit too much.

Fascinating graphic...

I think we play best when our ball movement spike gets a hard on. If not that, then when the spacing improves. I bet when we have those to points of the star going strong, we win more than average.

Lack of transition in Jazz play style is quite worrisome. Look at GSW for example - that's today's winning style in NBA for you.

The Jazz would get wrecked playing this style against GSW. Not that it really matters since they would get wrecked playing any style.

The Jazz had the most passes in the NBA, so I'm not sure what metric they are using for ball movement. Must be some combination of assist and total passes, because the Jazz dont get a lot of assist.

I actually think the Jazz offense holds back the ability of most of our roster.

I think its great that Quin has forced this young group to play in the half court (both offensively and defensively) because that is playoff basketball. I think once they have mastered the aspects he is preaching he will let the reigns go more and more and we will up our pace while still having that slow pace, half court bball to fall back on if games get out of hand or in tight games (almost as a defult).

While I think they need to get out in transition more, that is not what I am talking about. We have the size and speed to get shots all over the floor, but we largely do a pick and roll at the top of the key, attempt a mismatch, then either shoot a contested shot over the mismatched player, get a roll to the hoop or kick for a 3. That has advantages, but we dont get many slashing baskets, and defenders dont have to react much off the ball. The Jazz have run a few more wrinkles this year, but it is largely too defendable, especially when our deep shooting is off. It is also too easy to defend with teams being designed to have players that can guard multiple positions. From the GS series, our offense was so predictable, that GS's got too many easy buckets. Boston is a great example of good offensive sets getting easy baskets. IMO, Stevens is overachieving with that squad.

Stevens is running many of Jerry's old sets with wrinkles to get more 3s instead of 20 footers. I hope Quin continues to develop a more advanced offense, because I feel like it is holding this team back. I loved the old Jazz offense, because when something stopped working, there were a lot of other plays or wrinkles that did. It was truly beautiful to watch.

Didn't surprise me to see the old veterans run out of gas in the playoffs.I just worry the Jazz will waste the opportunity to speed their pace up with the younger players. They pass good and that should translate in fast breaks which Jazz never run.Walking up the court has its limitations and we witnessed it.

Jayson Tatum is projected to go in the top 5 but do you think his isolation-type game will translate to the NBA?... fb.me/27GUB26AL

No, it won't. Anyone drafting him will waste their pick. Nobody plays isolation anymore. They better just trade their pick to jazz ....

For trey lyles, yes thank you

The point of the Jazz offense is to use ball movement to get the mismatches they want, which can lead to isolation plays when it is advantageous. That is a learned skill and can take years of continuity to master (like the Spurs did.) It is also difficult to do properly which is why Dante and Lyles get benched a lot. We still have a ways to go, but the offense is leaps and bounds better than last year. Next year, if healthy, this offense will lead to more open shots and hopefully to even more "extra pass" for the layup possibilities.

The refining of this offensive system is largely to credit for the offensive improvement of Rudy.

This is why the Jazz need to become more athletic and play faster. Draft jackson and Bell. Play good defense, speed up the game, get some easy transition dunks.

By the way, transition is wildly overrated, especially in the modern NBA. Using the Warriors as evidence of how great transition play is also garbage because any style of intelligent basketball they want to play will be incredible. Their particular strength with regard to transition is that they use it to get open 3s much more than just racing to the basket because they're shooting ability is so absurd.

If I could copy a team, it would be Houston. Great transition, spacing and ball movement.

Yet we are the opposite of that. Ha ha.
