Guys I'd rather have than Wesley Matthews

Sirkick, I'd take Matthews over every single one of your picks, but don't have time at the moment to break each one down. I would take issue with the fact that he has little room for improvement when he made such a huge improvement in such a short period last year.
 
A guy I like for a replacement for Wes is Joe Crawford. Same size as Wes, has hops and can shoot the 3 ball. He played well in the Orlando summer league and would most likely be a minimum salary. He's Jordan Crawford's brother.
 
Giving Wes Matthews Raja Bell money isn't a bad thing. The Jazz need to hold on to their assets. Matthews is a good young player who plays hard and fits Sloan's system.

All of a sudden, CJ Miles' contract is looking reasonable. Remember, the Jazz once gave Gordan Giricek $4mm/year. Why not give Matthews $5mm? Is he that easy to replace?

"New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - The Hornets have reached an agreement to sign free agent guard Luther Head, according to New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower.

Bower told the Times Picayune that the two sides agreed to a two-year contract worth close to $2.3 million. It's expected he will compete with Marcus Thornton for playing time.

A five-year veteran out of Illinois, the 27-year-old Head has competed in 312 career games for Houston, Miami and Indiana. He has career per-game averages of 8.5 points, 2.5 boards and 2.2 assists. Head was drafted 24th overall by the Rockets in 2005 and has 68 starts to his credit while averaging 23.1 minutes. "

And why would Tony Allen leave an NBA finals team (Boston) to come to the Jazz? Seems unlikely, unless we offer him way more than Boston. In which case I would stick with Matthews, who our coaches are more familiar with, plus he's 5 years younger. None of the others have Matthews all-round skills. Remember the Jazz gave away Brewer because Matthews as a rookie FA was already better. And, he showed such improvement over the course of last season AND continued to improve in the playoffs, NO WAY he's reached his max. He's worth the $$$, so pay him. Assuming we do keep him, AK is outa here next season, unless we greatly reduce his salary.
