I hadn't seen this posted:

From Deron Williams twitter:
Deron Williams "@hoopshype: For a guy that's only a couple of years removed from playing, M Harpring sure sounds very pro-owners." Was thinking Samething

Harprings reply:

@DeronWilliams @hoopshype let me speak for myself then. i am for fairness and for the fans! their is no game without the fans!

Wow, sounds like they really loved each other. I betcha they're (or is it their?) going to get together for lunch when Orlando (or whatever team Dwill forces a trade to) comes to town.

Harpring has nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting a season started regardless of what it means for players. In other words, his current interest greatly outweighs his former interest. That's what's bothered me most by his commenting on the issue. I'd be far less likely to discount what he had to say if he could actually be a neutral party.

That's what I was thinking. Greg signs his paychecks right now, and I don't think he gets paid while there's a lockout on top of that.
That being said, I don't think he really liked Duron all that much when they played together, so that doesn't help resolve a twitter fight.

This is why I was really hoping to get Fez's take on things.

The guy's married to a doctor. And you know Harp didn't squander his money. He needs his new paychecks a hell of a lot less than a lot of young guys in the league who were sweating their missed paychecks. He gave his honest advice. Deron considered it disloyal. Deron was wrong.

not sure i love the implication that only people with no stake in the thing get to comment on it. sure, harpring has his broadcaster salary on hold, but why does that make him less qualified to opine about the best/worst/quickest/fairest way to end a lockout? don't we all have a stake in the lockout? at the very least, we're all fans who want to be able to watch basketball. the others who have spoken out are current players, current owners, attorneys hired by either side, player agents, coaches unions, and employees of the or the many organizations that cover the league and depend on NBA games to get people to flip to their channel, buy their newspaper or visit their website. should all those people hold their tongue, too, since they clearly all have "current interests" that might cloud their position?

I think what numbs really meant was he would value Harp's opinion more if he agreed with it. I'm guessing there were plenty of players who were of the same opinion, which is why the union didn't want to give everyone a chance to vote on the deal when it was rejected.

Having said that, Harpingsucks should probably now be changed to Harpringsuckup.
