Hayward/Burks to play in the Indy Pro-Am

Hayward's had some nasty jams white boy or not.

Burks hasn't played one game in the NBA yet. He's had some nice slams in a summer league, while cute, they don't compare....yet.

The only place where people care if a players is white or not anymore is on Jazzfanz. Time to get over it folks. NBA players are athletic and I doubt anybody was surprised that a 6'8" player dunked in a game.

WEll, if we're talking unexpected and crowd-pleasing dunks, don't forget the Price throw-down over Boozer. Of course, dunking ability is greatly overrated. Give me a guy who can consistently make his shots from 10-20 ft. and make a lay-up when he has the opportunity. That's what you need from a guard or SF. Forget the flashy plays. How many dunks did you see Stockton or Hornacek make in their careers?

Dunks are still pretty important. Yes they count the same as a layup or a 15 ft jump shot, but they can energize an arena and a team. After someone throws down a nasty dunk, the crowd erupts, the team starts playing off the crowd energy, etc.

Or, a player can go up for a dunk, hurt his hand/wrist on the rim or get undercut and injure a knee, ankle or land hard on his backside. Dunks may energize the crowd a bit, but I don;t think they have much impact on the teams. I'd rather see a simple layup, with the player then hustling back on defense instead of posing for the crowd and the other team getting a transition bucket right back.

You can get hurt going for a layup too.

Apparently you can get a season-ending injury answering the front door.
