What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

So if we match, do we have to pay 15 percent more or not?

We need players with the contract mentality of Stockton, Malone and Duncan. Winning and improving was obviously more important to those guys than getting paid every penny they possibly could. Though those sorts of men are obviously hard to find, they do exist. Hopefully we will soon have proof that Favors is in that category. It simply will not work for the Utah Jazz to play this game by the rules that Hayward has set up. Good by Gordon.

This is a perfect example of why all you need to be a GM in the NBA is a brain with knowledge about the game and not experience as a player. I think a lot of us on this site could make better decisions than to give Hayward a contract of this magnitude.

if the jazz don't match, everyone will lose towards other teams

the jazz will lose a good player
the hornets will lose any chance to be good in a long run
from a basketball point of view, hayward will lose too

i can understand hayward though, the last 3 years the jazz organization sucked big time
maybe if they were heading this team properly the last years, then hayward would be willing to sign a reasonable deal here

Sure, I agree, from Hayward's perspective, it's a no-brainer. I'd lose confidence in a franchise that kept Corbin as a coach for three years.

Hayward always seemed to me like the sort of player who just hated losing, but not in the good way where you take charge and drive your team to victory, more in the way where he just wishes winning would be easier. Hornets will probably be winning more games than us whether we match or not, so i can see why he would prefer to go there.

having said that i have always liked hayward and will fully support him whatever we are paying him

I think the Jazz will match. I was hoping he'd get an offer no higher than 14.5 million per year. This is a little higher than I like but not so far off. I think he's still developing and will grow into the contract, And am excited to see how Snyder utilizes him. Corbin had almost everything going through Hayward last year. He was creating for everybody else. But very little was created for him. It's not hard to see why his shooting percentages dropped.

Hayward going to Charlotte and will eat up some of MKG's minutes. MKG is one of best defensive 3's in the league and they will downgrade defensively to one of the worst in Hayward. Their defense will suffer.

Hayward at the 2? His playmaking ability's gonna complement MKG's slashing ability too. I think they'll make a good pair.

Ouch both the 2 and 3 can't make 3's at a consistent rate then. Gordon Hayward is a shorter Hedo Turkoglu with 10% less on his 3 pt shooting. This Gordon Hayward contract will be worse then the Raptors contract for Hedo.

The Jazz and their perpetual "let the market set the number" are the reason he has this contract. Wed Mayhews, Paul Milsap, etc.

This league overpays for young talent. Jazz gambled and lost.
