What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

NY gave up picks and contracts for Bargnani (Massai is a magician)... Wizards got Rashard Lewis on a shorter contract. Also, those contracts were longer than Hayward's.
Tell me the good stuff that toronto and washington got.

(Rashard lewis is not good stuff)

What were the draft picks and contracts that new york gave to toronto

Joe Johnson proves that nobody is untradeable. The shorter contracts is a big reason to consider matching the deal. He either outplays the contract and you're ecstatic that you have the freedom to offer him another max contract with his Bird Rights, or you move on and build around Exum, Kanter, Burks or whoever might have stepped up in the meantime.

The other thing is Hayward fits in with almost any team because of his versatility. If we wanted to move him next year we could get back our cap space and likely some first rounders for him.

Also, I think Burks is closer to Hayward in terms of talent than some posters. I think it is very close, but I don't think he has as much of a market as Hayward does so he'll likely get paid less. After this deal I don't think we will be able to extend either Burks or Kanter unless we overpaid, but that really has nothing to do with whether or not we match.... the market is already set the high price.

I think some of us think that Burks can be better than Hayward.

What if Burks averages 18/4/3 next season on 45% fg and 35% 3pt? I could see him easily doing that, especially in Snyder's offense. Should we have to match a max contract for him too? Those numbers are better than hayward's this year...

This just seems like a bad idea.

Problem is the market is already set... Our deciding to match has no bearing on the type of offers they will receive.

I do think Burks will be the odd man out eventually, which makes me a little sad. I think Exum has some similarities to Burks, but we will see.

I get that people like Burks. I like Burks too. I just don't think he will ever be the all around player that Hayward is.

I am pretty sure most of the league views Hayward as a much better player than Burks, regardless of what some of the posters on Jazzfanz think.

This. There are a lot of Jazz fans that overvalue Burks for some reason.

Probably true.

There are apparently teams that overvalue hayward too.

Maybe next year a team overvalues burks and kanter.
Should we overpay them too?

Also, Arenas' contract was 6 years and $111 M. He was also coming off of knee issues when he signed the deal. The risk in that deal >>>>>>>>>>>>> the risk in Hayward's deal

A bad contract is a bad contract

What did that first and those seconds turn in to?

Read please... they have not been conveyed yet. Point is they got nearly all expiring contracts and draft picks.
