Hayward is one of 19 players named to the national team roster summer tryouts. IT will be trimmed to 12 and that is the final roster.

Only 4 hold overs from the last team - Love, Durant, Harden and Davis.

Along with those 4 and Hayward also named were Lillard, Korver, DeRozan, Parsons, Curry, Klay Thompson, Irving, Griffin, George, Cousins, Faried, Drummond, Rose and Bradley Beal.
This is for the World Cup in Spain.

Gordon Hayward one of 19 players invited to tryout for 2014 USA World Cup Team

Gordon Hayward is getting paid like one of the game’s best, and this summer he’ll have a chance to prove he belongs among them.

The 24-year-old Utah Jazz swingman is one of 19 players who will attend a Team USA camp in Las Vegas, vying for one of the 12 spots on the country’s roster for the World Cup in Spain later this summer.

"We like [him] a lot," Duke and USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said during a Monday morning conference call with reporters. "At 6-8 … he’s one of those guys who really, internationally, can play 2, 3, or 4 depending on the lineup. I love his versatility and the fact that he is really ball friendly. He can dribble it, pass it, score. He’s an easy guy to play with."

Krzyzewski has seen Hayward’s game expand since the 2010 NCAA title game, when Hayward’s half-court heave rimmed out at the final buzzer.

Last season with the Jazz, Hayward averaged 16 points, five rebounds and five assists a night, showing off an all around game that Krzyzewski admires.

"He’s becoming really one of the outstanding players in the NBA," Krzyzewski said. "We’re really excited about him being a part of this camp."

Hayward has been a part of the USA basketball system since 2012, when he was part of a select team that trained against the U.S. Olympic team. Last summer, Hayward participated as a member of the team’s mini-camp.

The competition for the final World Cup roster will be hefty, with a star-studded group fighting for one of 12 positions. Former Jazz sharpshooter Kyle Korver and former Weber State standout Damian Lillard will also be vying for a spot.

The other participants at the camp are: Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards); DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings); Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors); Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); Andre Drummond(Detroit Pistons); Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder); Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets); Paul George (Indiana Pacers); Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers); James Harden (Houston Rockets); Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers); Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves); Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls); Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors); DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors); and Chandler Parsons (Dallas Mavericks).

What are his chances of making the 12-man team?

Seems like there are to many guards. Durant, Parsons, George, Kyle Korver and Hayward are the only ones that can play SF. Count in that he can play SG and K's encouraging comments about him, I think he has a good chance.

I think he's a better fit for international ball than Parsons. Durant is a lock if he wants to play. Paul George probably is too. Will be interesting to see if Hayward shoots well this summer.

Equally important, were does his contract rank against these players considered to be the among the best in the US (obviously some must have already declined invitations to play in Spain)?
Max guys (note: these players are making more then Hayward due to either being signed via the "Derrick Rose" rule or were given 7.5% yearly increases): Cousins, Durant, George, Griffin, Irving, Rose, Love.
Essentially equal to Hayward: Parsons (salary is the same for 3 years), Parsons has a player option in Yr 3, Hayward has a player option in Year 4.

Max but less than Hayward (signed in a year with a smaller cap): Harden.

Still on rookie deals (likely max): Beal, Davis, Drummond, Thompson, Lillard. I think it's fair to say most of these guys will likely get max contracts. Perhaps Drummond is still a ? mark.
Still on rookie deal (not max): Faried. He'll get a very good contract. It likely won't be a max deal.

So that leaves Curry, DeRozan and Korver.
1. We can all agree GS has a tremendous bargain in Curry. He was coming off an injury and they extended him. Credit GS for acting when he was the most vulnerable. Tremendous bargain.
2. Derozan earning $10M/per
3. Korver - obviously a specialist being considered by Coach K.

Where is Alec Burks? Haven't they read Jazzfanz and know that he can do 360 jackknife layups?

How many strong SF's are there in Europe? I know there are some incredibly lengthy ones, but on average most of them seem pretty weak. You can get away with 3 guards in Europe play.

I'm not sure what his chances are, but I hope like hell that he makes it. If we still believe that Gordon Hayward's best basketball is ahead of him, then working with Coach K and competing with the best in the business helps him to make improvements in his game and raise his profile. I'm hoping that Gordon Hayward busts his *** to make that team, because it will make him better when he comes back to the Jazz this next season.

Looks like this show is being run by Jazz FO or Charlotte's FO. Who would invite him when there are plenty of other players infinitely better.

Oh yeah, all these basketball minds with years of experience have no idea how to evaluate talent. You should go teach them how to do so.
