Ok. Guess I misjudged the point of your post. Why do you assume that I assume that the Jazz didn't offer a second round pick?
The argument was against those who said Ainge should have given us the TPE for free.

As someone pointed out earlier, Hayward could easily force this to happen. If he really cared about the Jazz like he said in his farewell article, he would... and as there would be no loss of assets for the Celtics there's no argument against doing it. That bears repeating. Over and over again.
What if Ainge gives the Jazz this TPE and down the line the Jazz and Celtics are both trying to get the same player in a trade but Utah is able to win out in part due to the TPE the Celtics gifted them? This is cutthroat tactics by Ainge. Maybe it comes around back to him someday when he loses a player in UFA and the other team refuses to give him a TPE, but I frankly dont think he gives a ****.
That's a much less likely scenario than his son losing a congressional seat. It's also a scenario as likely as him needing to cash in a favor from us in the future. It's also as likely as him losing out on people willing to deal with him. There are many likely outcomes but you're simply choosing to see one just because that's how it went down.
Oh please dude. If a voter is pissed at Tanner Ainge for his dad stealing Hayward, getting a ****ing TPE isnt going to change their already dumbass vote.
Ainge is playing cutthroat, he isn't expecting a favor from anyone. He expects teams to want to get better and to pay for it because he has the prime assets. People need to grow up an stop thinking the Celtics should give us pity favors.
You going to tell me just because Ainge has been a meany poopy pants that people are going to stop trying to trade for Jae Crowder or the 2018 Brooklyn pick? Please. You know what happens if you don't? You deal Paul George for Donatas Sabonis and Victor "overpaid as ****" Oladipo and **** your franchise for another 4 years like the Pacers did. Ainge is just laughing his *** off at that.
a) He or his agent could easily have said to Ainge on July 4, "I'd like to sign with you but a requirement is you work out a way for Utah to get a trade exception." Would have cost him nothing, and Ainge would have obviously agreed. How? You expect Hayward to refuse to sign with the Celtics just because Ainge won't help the Jazz? What's he going to do then? Go sign with Indiana? It doesnt bear repeating because it's a ridiculous assertion.
Professional courtesy. Son's campaign. Saving face in a state he's connected to.
On the flip side there's only one reason not to do it -- because he's a dick.
DL twice facilitated the Warriors championships.

b) Even now, he could probably go to Ainge and say, "Make this happen before I sign with you. I owe it to the team and fans in Utah," and I doubt Ainge would resist too hard. Especially if Utah is willing to throw in a 2nd rounder which they undoubtedly are.
I don't think Ainge is worried about long term. I'd bet that he wants to win another title and go away.
Ainge hopes Hayward, Brown, Tatum and next year's pick do the job.
Any future favors from Utah...he just took Hayward. A TPE or second round pick won't make up for that.

You're playing the "what if giving the TPE screws him" hypothetical, as if there aren't alternative hypotheticals that can bite him in the *** if he doesn't do it.
Let me break this down for you.
The TPE would help us, not Boston. Correct? So it's valuable, but only to us.
Let's say you and I are in a competitive business together. I have something that's worthless to me. It could be somewhat valuable to you though. Am I just going to give it to you? Hell no! I'm competing with you. If I get no benefit from this, then it ain't happening.
Do you understand?
Let me break this down for you.
The Jazz receive a TPE and a player Boston will cut anyway given their new roster (if a player even has to come back)
The Celtics receive a future second round pick and Haywood
The Celtics give up a TPE that is useless to them and a player they are releasing anyway (again, if a player even has to come back in return). Which means they give up NOTHING. In return they receive Haywood and a FREE second round pick.
They win. There's no reason for them not to do that other than to be d****
Do you understand?
Would you punish the fans like he did and expect less? I was cool with him staying or leaving(figured he was leaving when his meeting with us was in SD) bit that 6 hour "will he, won't he" killed what respect I had for him as a man. I'm not understanding how you let this big of a decision (one you prepped for) got flubbed so bad. Tony Jones had a nice piece on the POV from the Jazz. Will be nice throughout the season to hear more coming out about what's going on the last 2-3 daysI would not be surprised if Gordon and his wife have more bad feelings about Utah right now then they ever have. I am guessing that both he and Ainge have nothing but disdain for the Jazz and the their fans at this point. Just imagine how much worse it would be if they read this fan site.
