Hayward to the Suns?

I agree that Hayward could be an all-star some day if the Jazz are contenders however you said that he was better than Paul George who is a legitimate franchise player. No one is saying Hayward isn't a very good player but he is not consistent enough to be consider elite and he is not worth $12 million a year.

When did I say he was better than Paul George? Maybe when we drafted him? I was a different person then, so I couldn't have said it then. But in no way do I believe that after the development of George.

Okay, but shouldn't a team with a "max" player and at least 5 other lottery picks be better than 1-12?

I wouldn't pay him max money right now either.

Your question was "how long should we wait to see his potential".

I think more than 13 games in a major role as a 23 year old

Hayward will be tough to evaluate on a team likely to lose 72 games.

Touch either way (Good stats - someone had to score, Bad Stats - Horrendous team)

I like Hayward a lot, buy IMO he is not a #1 on any team.... I do think he is a #2 on many teams though.

I do not know what money this pays, whatever a #2 pays he should get.

Once he is a #2 , he is good cranking assisted, facilitating offense....huge skills.

It was weird playing PS4 NBA 2K14 yesterday after Hayward went 1-17 and seeing him as #3 stat leader for the day in their NBA Today Screen(Pretty cool screen)

I agree , let's see the whole season. I am actually impressed with Hayward so far in all dimensions EXCEPT turnovers. Needs to chill on those.

So by your logic, there should only be one max player on a championship team? What about Pau Gasol, Dwayne Wade, Russell Westbrook, Scottie Pippen, Chris Bosh, John Stockton, Amare Stoudemire, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, etc in their primes? Not max guys because they were not the primary option on their own team, and could not lead a team to a championship on their own?

All those guys you mentioned were All Stars and leaders of playoff caliber teams. At this point, Hayward is neither. Why give max money to someone who can't even lead his team to more than one win at this point?

The Bulls weren't a championship team with Pippen as the #1 option, but they were a solid playoff team.

You never answered my question, so how long until you stop with the "let's give him more time" excuse? The rest of this season (even though he's had more than decent playing time in his previous THREE seasons)? 2 more seasons? when he's in his 10th season? After a certain point you can tell what kind of player someone is, it's not rocket science. After watching Derrick Favors the last few season, I'm not expecting him to be the next Moses Malone or Dwight Howard, just as I don't expect Hayward to transform into Larry Bird or suddenly have the shooting touch of Jeff Hornacek...it just ain't happening.

What if Hayward takes the money from the suns and runs off in the middle of the night like Roger did before we have chance to beat it?

Dare I say...That's CJ Miles numbers right there. The biggest chucker in the history of the Jazz. LOL

Yeah but CJ never even breathed on 6 boards and 5 assists per game.

One option we'll have is to extend Hayward while Parker or Wiggins are still on their rookie deals.
See how he plays with them, and if it works. If that duo is deadly then build around it. If Hay isn't working as a good number 2 man,
get the best shooter you can to play with Wig or Park, and make your run. We still have a lot of options. I hope Burks works his way
into this conversation. Surely he can't keep playing this poorly.

the jazz can match any offer.....he cant run off. LMAO.

problem is do the jazz want to match that huge *** offer. I'm reading twitter and PHX suns fans seem to be thinking along the same line as Jazz fans.."HELL NO TO THE MAX" lmao so this report is most likely ********. I doubt the GM of PHX is this insane.

Plus Hornacek has worked closely with Hayward before...he knows better than any of us what his true "ceiling" is, and if that is ceiling is even worth gambling the max on. Hornacek is a smart dude, I'm thinking they make reasonable offer but nothing outrageous (> $11M/year).

If they did that we would probably match. The result for them would be that they would have tied up their cap space for several days (because we will almost certainly wait to answer until the last moment that we are allowed to) and missed out on Hayward plus likely some other top free agents who end up signing during the interm as a result. This is the reason that teams typically have to overpay for RFAs. If they really want him they've got to offer an amount that they feel confident that we won't match.

I think the waiting period is shorter than it use to be so that is as strong of a reason to not offer a player what you want to pay him.
