Hood's Injury

You wouldn't even give up 1 first rounder? If you can do Joe Johnson and a single 1st rounder that seems like a no-brainer to me. Even two first, if one of them is the GSW pick, seems like a good deal.

If we were just looking at on court I think a first is a no-brainer, but it'd be the GSW first for me. He's also a rental as he is opting out after this year.

I think JJ does a lot for the youth of our franchise... plays a decent role as well. I think giving him up for a guy who's not had the best attitude (albeit in a ****ty environment) would be a mistake. Would also be a douchey thing to do to JJ... we haven't done fantastic in FA... this matters a little bit to me as well.

Adding all that up and it would be a no for me. I get it though.

I like JJ too, sometimes, but he is also the least enjoyable player to watch when he isnt on fire or has some kind of ridiculous mismatch in the post. He also struggles to defend anyone. And he is under contract for 11 million next year, which isnt great. IDK what we could do w/ freeing that cap space up, but it might allow us to re-sign Ingles next year. So trading for Gay in this scenario would be getting Gay and assuring the re-signing of Ingles. Certainly framing it that way probably changes a lot of people's minds.

As long as he's healthy I think we could move that salary next year, but it isn't ideal. I just think the locker room difference between Gay and JJ would be too much of a difference to justify midseason I guess.

We likely have to decide between Ingles and JJ this offseason. I think everyone would like to keep Ingles around. Hopefully we don't have to send an asset with JJ if we need to move him.

Why not between Ingles and Diaw? What are my off-the-cuff calculations not accounting for?

Diaw is gone.

I'm figuring on Hill at 20M, Hayward 26M, and retaining Favors, Burks, Exum... so no trades.

Ingles makes close to or over 10 per year if he keeps throwing darts and shutting down superstars. Just think it will be a lot of salary and we likely give some rotation wing minutes to the rookies we bring in... didn't tally it all up though.

I don't count on us going far over the tax and think we won't touch luxury tax but some think I'm insane.

They will be fine.
Hood was having a kind of bad year anyway. His field goal percentage (41) and three point percentage (35) and free throw percentage (74) and free throw attempts per game (2.0), and assists per game (2.0), and points per game (14.0) and minute per game (29.3) are all down from last year.

He has kind of quietly been having a bad season and no one has really been talking about his poor play all that much. Mostly we have criticized mack, lyles, favors, and Diaw but hood has mostly avoided criticism since I think we all believe he has hay been in a slump and he has had some really good games to make us forget his bad ones.

Gobert, hill, and Hayward (along with different guys stepping up here and there) have been carrying us and will continue to do so.

Plus burks has a much improved 3 point point shot and i think he is a better passer, rebounder, and more dynamic scorer than hood and puts lots of pressure on the defense and gets to the line.

I think we will be fine.

Totally agree. I think this is a quiet white elephant in the corner of the room that Hood's been so inconsistent and while his good games are amazing, he has plenty of indifferent ones. Maybe it's been his health but there's a chance Burks is a more consistent 3 point shooter .. will be interesting to see how the 2 spot pans out over the next year or so

Absent a true no-brainer deal we get Ingles and Burks more time and just roll with that for now. Honestly, Ingles might be the best fit of any the Hood, Burks, JJ with the starters.

I have a hard time saying an injury is a good thing, but more joe Ingles is never a bad thing... just a conundrum for me.

And I will repeat, I'm not talking about giving up a ton of players for him. I'm just saying Joe Johnson (who is more of an ISO heavy player than Gay ever was, and continues to be) and a late 1st round draft pick or two.

Well if you want to replace JJ with him and in his role than yes, I see how he would be better option than JJ. I just don't see him fitting in otherwise.

The all star break ends after Sunday Feb 19th. I'm not expecting to see him before then, despite these reports.

Come on, have some faith! The Jazz trainers will speed his recovery by using an alternating, daily regimen of leeches and bloodletting to restore balance to his humors.
