Hood's Injury

I don't count on us going far over the tax and think we won't touch luxury tax but some think I'm insane.

Agree that we won't go far over the tax, as the penalties become too steep, but if we are able to keep Hill and Hayward, I'll bet we go into the tax as much as 10 million for a year or two, after next season.

You wouldn't even give up 1 first rounder? If you can do Joe Johnson and a single 1st rounder that seems like a no-brainer to me. Even two first, if one of them is the GSW pick, seems like a good deal.

No way to 2 1sts, even if he was healthy, which he isn't now.

The Sacramento Kings believe Rudy Gay suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the Sacramento Kings' loss on Wednesday to the Indiana Pacers.
An MRI has been scheduled for Thursday to confirm the diagnosis.
‎Gay, 30, made it clear coming into the season that he intended to walk away from the final season of his Kings contract, valued at $14.3 million in 2017-18, to opt for free agency in July.
With the injury and a long recovery time, Gay could instead decide to opt into his contract with the Kings.

if he indeed suffered torn Achilles tendon he would be dumb to not opt in. Collect your millions while rehabbing. Seems like no brainer.

Maybe one year. But two? Does that make Utah a repeat offender? I'm not a capologist, but I know the penalties were very steep under the CBA. It wasn't just a 1 for 1 penalty anymore in a lot of cases. Not sure if anything has changed in the new CBA.

ESPN in July projected the tax line @ 122 million for next year with the CAP @ 102 million. If Hayward gets the 30% max, we will have the following ten players under contract before re-signing anyone else:

Hayward @ 30,6
Favors @ 12
Johnson @ 10,5
Burks @ 10,6
Exum @ 5
Lyles @ 2,5
Gobert @ 21,2
Hood @ 2,4
Neto @ 1
Bolomboy @ 0,9

This makes for a total commited salary of 96,7 million. With cap holds for our draft picks next summer, this will rise to just about an even 100 million. This means that we will have around 22 million to split between Hill and Ingles if we want to retain them, and that Diaw, Mack and Withey are gone.

Can we get Hill & Ingles to sign for a combined $22 million? I severly doubt it, but it should be possible to dump Joe Johnson together with some cash and a draft pick, so it is absolutely doable to retain our core while remaining under the tax threshold next season.

I actually meant the cap not the tax. I don't think we go far over the cap... I don't think we ever pay the tax again.

Think Favs and or Burks could be moved... possibly JJ.

I think we might have to choose between Ingles and Hood. If we can tie up Ingles for a reasonable salary this summer, I would see what Hood could get us on the trade market. With Hood`s inconsistent performances, I am far from sure that I want us to be the team that gives him 20 million a year after his rookie deal expires.

That's really interesting but I think he is a big part of the long term thinking. He would certainly get a pretty good return on the trade market.

I think moving JJ might be our best option next year. That will clear enough space to keep both Inlges and Hill.

We also will have lots of good players to make a trade move if the right player comes along at the trade deadline or next season. I think some or a lot of our moves next off season will depend on how this post season goes. If we make it past the second round we do everything we can to retain most or all of our players that played any significant time in the post season. If we lose in the first or barely win the first and get swept in the second we are more likely to make some changes.

30.6 isn't accurate. formula is different. Without googling or doing the math to get a baseline estimate myself, I'd say the starting salary is closer to 28.5
