Because yea, its tough for the Lakers, they didn't get the number 2 pick in the draft last season after getting it for three years in a row and had to settle with signing Lebron in the offseason. It must be really hard to be a Lakers fan, their organization deserves to finally catch a break.

Separately, if I'm NO, I jettison Davis to the highest bidder and go with something new. I just don't see AD sticking around and don't think a rookie is going to change his mind (especially since most players don't hit their full prime until their second contract).

I think they are just posturing... I mean they can't seriously want to keep AD around and have his toxic attitude infect Zion. Have the new young face of the franchise watch AD (a guy he probably looks up to) as he pouts his way out of town.

I think they are just trying to add themselves to the AD bidding to help drive up the price.

I keep reading chatter about Zion possibly returning to Duke. New rules allow him to do it, even if he doesn't sign with an agent (which he hasn't).

Also, heard national radio show guys talking that AD's "people" are saying the #1 pick changes nothing and he wants to be traded. I suspect it might have something to do with the $4 million trade kicker he gets, but maybe he just hates Fat Wednesday.

If he forces a trade, for his own sake he should make certain there is an Alpha on the team already. He is amazing and unique with many talents...but I don't think he is a top dog and believe he could wither and melt under the scrutiny of being the guy in a larger market.

It kills the non-zero chance of the Jazz getting Jrue via trade, but Conley might be more available now and Randle could be picked up in FA, although I don't want to spend all that much to get him. Hard to say what will happen to the other playoff teams in the West and if there will be any clear movers up, but I'd keep an eye on the Lakers trying to get AD again.

What the Pelicans decide to do with AD is going to be incredibly interesting. Do they roll the dice on a year of Jrue/Zion/AD? Do they flip AD for a bunch of young depth pieces from the Knicks or Lakers? Do they swing for the fence and try and get another yound 3rd guy in exchange for AD like Ben Simmons or Jayson Tatum? So many possibilities.

How were we gonna get Jrue? Acquiring him has had to be the most ridiculous narrative over the past few weeks.

No. I know he’s had serious health issues but their luck was excessive and annoying at some point... he had an entitled this isn’t fair look and I enjoyed it.

Agreed. When a team is on the outs they happen to get the #1 pick which revitalizes the team.

I broke it down once. Not going to spend the time again but shortly after Katrina happened guess who got the #1 pick. When lebron left the cavs? Yup. When Washington wizards had just had a gun in their locker room? Uh huh. When Chicago sweetheart and native Derrick rose was coming guess what team got the pick? You got it. When Cleveland native and sweetheart lebron was available guess who got the #1 pick. There isnt a case for tampering every year but when big players can swing a market that has had the biggest crisis of the year... lady luck just happens to come. It smells sometimes.

If course the one year there was a Mormon expected to be drafted top three the jazz move back to #5. WTH!!

Im just wondering if the jazz have enough. Local media seems convinced this helps the jazz to get conley but they arent saying what the jazz need to put together to get it done. The 23rd pick + grayson allen is probably not that enticing for what they could get from other teams.

The Jazz don’t have a bunch of prime assets, but no one with prime assets is probably sending them for Conley. I think Boston is a dark horse if/when Kyrie leaves, but after that, I can’t easily think of other teams that simultaneously:
1. Need a point guard
2. Are win-now
3. Can make the trade work financially (have the salary to send while also staying under the LT)

The market is not the best and I don’t think it gets better.

Now, the Grizzlies don’t HAVE to trade Conley, but if they are, I think we’re in good position (especially if we can absorb some of that salary beyond the 150% returning salary thing).

It’s also worth noting the Grizzlies just kind of blew up their organization and I think that bodes well for us.
