What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

Had a package held up in Japan for over 2 months, looks like it finally shipped from the office of outward exchange today!

I remember you saying a lot of what you use comes from China and that a shortage would be happening soon.

Is that what’s happening with the breakers you think?

I would guess. It’s mainly hitting the HomeLine brand of SquareD. My main suppliers don’t stock that brand (one is a Siemens distributor and the other GE) so I buy that brand from Home Depot.
I’ve seen it in LED lights as well, but not nearly as bad.

Have a broken part for my RAZR that needs replaced. The virus has shut down the Polaris factory causing a ridiculous delay in getting a replacement part. Going on 3 weeks now.

The virus has ****ed me super hard. Got done with a technical program and was going to search for jobs but then this happened. I'm still sending out some applications just in case, but now I'm mostly working on personal projects and hoping that this ends soon.
I hope you got a job.

I don’t know if this is still pandemic related, but **** is getting hard to find. My supplier is constantly out of everyday, heavy use items. They say things like “we ordered x amount, but only got y amount”. Also, prices are going up quickly. Single strand #12 wire (the most common used inside conduits in commercial/industrial work) has gone up 10%+ in less than 4 months.

It is... lots of trade has been bottlenecked. Scrap steel has gone way up... bunch of ag folks I work with said they had major disruptions to their supply chains and had to use new and different materials.

I heard on the radio that computer chips are not being produced enough so automobile production had to stop at some factories.

Btw, I look forward to these issues being blamed on Biden and the radical left socialists.

Having just finished my basement, I can tell you that the cost of building supplies has been all over the map. They spiked in September and lumber was 2x the cost of what it was when in the summer. Things got better in October/November, but December saw another massive 2x spike.

If you're looking at finishing your basement or other bigger construction (even buying a house), you may want to consider waiting until the spring when relief is expected. Builders are pricing new builds with these higher-priced raw materials in mind as they still have profit to maintain.
