What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

My office has been taking great pains to make sure I'm safe as I'm the most vulnerable one in the office and working from home isn't an option for several reasons. No one comes into my office, and everyone stays far away from me when I venture out to the restroom (with gloved hands). When I left my office once today, one of my coworkers was standing quite close to my door, and I had to walk by him as he didn't move. A few minutes later, it was discovered that he had been ill and had been tested for COVID-19 yesterday but doesn't have the results. And yet he came into the office today and was one foot away from me. He's always been a jerk and thinks he's hilarious and clever for not following protocols of all kinds, but this one is potentially quite harmful. I doubt I'm in real danger as he wasn't coughing and didn't touch me or anything, but still . . .

I'm pretty sick now, since Tuesday night. Wife developed what she swears is a head cold about 6-7 days ago. Horrible sounding cough, but no fever. Sinus congestion. Her cough is better now.

Tuesday night I felt a scratchy feeling in my throat, not unusual for the start of a cold. Woke up Wed. morn with slight temp, and feeling of a respiratory infection in my chest. But no sore throat, and no head cold whatsoever. Woke up this morning with the cough, but not a bad cough at all. Still no shortness of breath at all for either of us.

This eve, got violently ill to stomach, and diarrhea, which are also symptoms of coronavirus, but I'm certain in my case it was because I was stupid and only ate an English muffin all day. Since I'm diabetic, I got violently sick. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Threw sugar pill after sugar pill down my throat, until my stomach finally calmed down.

We need testing, but no shortness of breath and no high fever are good signs. I think? Unless we have a mild version. But still no widespread testing here. So we stay hunkered down, and just monitor ourselves for any of the real serious symptoms.

My wife got called in today to help clean-up the damage from the earthquake and to get details about the store shutting down for a little bit. She's worried about if she's gonna get paid during the shut down. They have verbally said that they are going to pay everyone, even hourly full and part-time employees and my wife is salary as the store's ops manager. I figure she's gonna get paid during the shut down but we'll find out.
So my wife's store is closing for at least the next two weeks. Everyone is still getting paid either their salary or based on their average hours over the last 6 weeks. But bonuses and raises will not be paid this quarter.

Pretty fair deal.

I hope we get our bonus
I was told the date we would get it a few weeks ago but now I'm hearing that they don't know when it will be paid out.
I was pretty disappointed in the amount

Yeah! Has there ever not been a corporate portion? I mean are they struggling? Is it really hard to figure out how to pay it out? It used to be the middle check in Feb. for like forever, right? Now we're not sure if we'll get it by the last check in March. I mean I get that it's a bonus but they sure do know how to take what should be a morale builder and turn it into a morale killer. DAF.

The corporate portion thing pissed me off. I have never seen that before.
And I thought the Trump tax cuts for corporations and rich people was supposed to trickle down. Lol

As it stands I won't be able to make it to my grandma's 99th birthday celebration... we all told her that it's a risk to still go ahead with it and that it should be moved back at a later date.

Not sure how many people will still be turning up. Old people are so stubborn... smh...

This means we’d get $7,000. I’d of course love that but it should not happen. My wife and I haven’t lost our jobs. Yet anyway. I have some concern about my wife’s.
I get where you're coming from, but we need something like this in the hands of those who need it quick if we want to stave off a deep recession.

Tax it out away from those who don't need it next year or something, but means testing it now just adds complexity and time we don't have.

So I found out today that a job I had coming has been nixed. It was ready to start like a week ago. Permit issued and everything. It’s a chiropractor office (a franchisee of a national chain). They don’t want to dump a bunch of money into a business since they don’t know when they’ll get clients.
It wasn’t a huge job for me, but it would have paid my bills for a month.

Well I hope you find something else to occupy your time. Sorry bro.

Everything I read/heard from virologists, infectious disease specialists, etc they all seem to agree if you don't have a fever you probably don't have the virus.

Be well.

We have 8 things of children's liquid tylneol and 6 of Motrin in case they get it. Already had a lot of that before this hit too. Told my wife to buy two more of the Motrin. And a big bottle of Tylenol for us.

Right, I did feel warmer than usual, but my normal temp is lower than the traditional standard of 98.6, it's usually fractions of 96 or 97. I understand modern folks have lower average body temps than in the past. So I felt warmer than usual, at 98.5, but that's hardly alarming, just made me feel feverish, but it needs to go over 100 to become more worriesome. Felt better when I awoke this morn. I will say that if it's simply the common cold, and I did get a flu shot this year, it's one of the mildest colds I've ever had. Just bad timing, because one can't help but wonder.

My stepdad has family in Italy. They said that everything the doctors said about this virus weeks ago is happening there exactly how they said it would happen.

By the way, I forget if I posted this but I ran the numbers yesterday. We could be at 10,000,000 cases in the U.S. in 29 days with 25% growth day over day.

By about 5pm (I think that's when the numbers are generally counted on the one site I use), we would have needed to be at 15,000 cases today for this hold up. We're already at 16,000+ and I think will hit today what is the target number for tomorrow of 18,750.

That said, once we start getting to really big numbers, the % comes down. For instance, once we hit 100,000 cases (we hit that in < 2 weeks imo), 25% growth becomes REALLY tough imo as I doubt we will even be able to test that many people a day.

Nevertheless, pretty crazy numbers.

This has honestly affected me more than 9/11 did.

Was supposed to go to Belarus/Ukraine next week. Obviously that's not happening. It's not clear that I'll have another opportunity to do a vacation this year.

I do one big party at my home every year in May based around the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a big deal for me and my friends. I usually have 60+ guests. I hire bartenders to make custom cocktails. There's a costume contest with a championship belt for the winner. Eurovision was cancelled.
