People are thinking this based on "Ace skill and potential", and forgetting team and context. If you believe Clarkson is suddenly gonna turn into a guy who starts deferring to rookies you arent thinking straight.

Cody and Hendricks have gotten like 5-6 FGA without even having to compete for minutes/shots with each other... now Ace is coming in to play with the same guys they played with and in addition they are still both here. Collier, Brice, Flip... we got guys who all wanna build a career.

Point is we gotta trade some of them vets. Taking up major minutes/usage from these young guys is no longer acceptable.

You can tell if a player will be great very early in their first season
Donovan Mitchell avg 20+ PPG his rookie year
He got the starting job permanently at game 12 and never looked back
By game 10 you could see he was going to be special
This is usually how it goes with great players
Let's see how Ace does Hope he does great

I will say that where you are drafted (what number) makes a big difference in rookie playing time. Jimmy Butler was the 30th pick in the draft. That is the last pick of the first round. Which would likely indicate that he was drafted by a very good team and likely had very good players at his position making it hard for him to receive playing time.
8 minutes per game.

I do however disagree with SLC's point that you can tell how good a player will be in their rookie season. Especially with 18/19 year old 1 and done players. I just think you provided a poor example.

The Jimmy situation was strange for a guy that old. For the most part though we do see these youngsters at least flash some solid potential as a rookie. Particularly high draft picks. The only other 1st rd pick that I can think of that did nothing as a rookie and then turned into a possible future star is Jalen Johnson and I'm not sure if he was injured for a lot of his rookie year.

kobe averaged 7 ppg as a rookie and was throwing airballs in the most import games of the season. chauncey billups wasn't good. alperen sengun. giannis was horrendous early on. pascal siakam. joe johnson. rajon rondo. steve nash. paul george. demar derozan. kyle lowry.

those are just the first few off the top of my head. i assume i've made my point.
 
I’d like to see the jazz bring in Joe Johnson to work with Ace. Another phone booth player that didn’t need a lot of dribbles to score.

The Jazz want Ace to be happy and stick with the team. They do not care at all about what Clarkson, Sexton, Keyonte and Collins think. These players either fall in line or will not be on the court.

Out of all top-10 drafted players only Tre and Fears will have similar wide-open opportunities to score a bunch of points. And I am pretty sure that Ace really, really cares about being a rookie with the highest PPG. He will be gunning.

Maybe 16+ is a bit much. I'd imagine his playing time/role would be most similar to Miller/Green, but I don't think he will be as efficient year 1.

Most of those guys listed don’t have Ace’s ceiling or talent. If Ace starts and gets 3+ min he will have no problem putting up 16-20 pts. Hes a shot maker and taker. He easily hits that mark imo.
