What's new

I really don't like Romney.

Anyone see his Iphone Ap gaffe?

Are we laughing at the misspelling or the fact that the CIA part of the name just seems to fit so well with all the drones, detention/re-education camps, NDAA, etc. that are just waiting in the pipeline for the next president to really take a large role in domestically? A better AmerCIA is to come indeed no matter who we elect.

I basically did that for four years at an insurance company, percentage-wise. I'm unconvinced private emplo9yers are more efficient than public.

I'd choose the public option for the most part. I'm tired of the M.I.C. and every other complex that has formed to fleece the common man while enriching further the bankers and others at the top. We don't get any more from it than an elite class with more money in their pockets to buy more politicians and contracts with. So what if public employees are less efficient. At least we put people to work and keep and tax our own money.

In all fairness to Mr. Romney, who of any Presidential candidates other than Paul has suggested cutting our military size/defense budget? Certainly not Obama.

What President other than Clinton has closed bases and cut the defense's budget in the last 30 years?

I think the out of control defense spending has more to do with Congress "fighting" for jobs and contractors buying off the government (there is clearly a military industrial "entitlement" that is sucking our resources) than anything else. Shutting down military bases or factories in your state and laying off thousands of workers for the good of the union is basically going to destroy any chances of becoming reelected in even the most anti-government pro private sector states.

Keep the money going to the bases while firing all large contractors works for me.

I have a veteran friend in Virginia that does IT Networking as a civilian working on base. He travels one week a month to military bases/embassies to set up networks, troubleshoot, etc. The other 3 weeks he sits in his cubicle playing mine-sweep and surfing the internet.

My dad worked as a civilian contractor at Hill Field a while back. His supervisor actually called him into the office one day and told him to slow down as he was making the enlisted men look bad.

Gotta hand it to Mitt. This was a brilliant move:

“Two years ago President Obama was here to tout this building and this business as a symbol of the success of his stimulus,” said Romney, stepping off a bus and onto the public sidewalk in front of the Solyndra buildings just outside Silicon Valley. “Well you can see that it’s a symbol of something very different today.”

“It’s a symbol not of success but of failure,” he said. “It’s also a symbol of a serious conflict of interest. An independent inspector general looked at this investment and concluded that the administration had steered money to friends and family – to campaign contributors. This building, this half a billion dollar taxpayer investment, represents a serious conflict of interest on the part of the president and his team.”

“It’s also a symbol of how the president thinks about free enterprise,” said Romney. “Free enterprise to the president means taking money from the taxpayers and giving it freely to his friends.”

“You look at this building behind us; this is not the kind of building that is built by private enterprise,” he said. “This is the kind of enterprise – the kind of building – that’s built with half a billion dollars of taxpayers money. It’s not just the Taj Mahal of corporate headquarters. you probably also heard that inside there are showers that have LCD displays that tell what the temperatures are of the shower water. and the robots inside actually provide Disney music tunes.”

Which ones?

He travels one week a month to military bases/embassies to set up networks, troubleshoot, etc. The other 3 weeks he sits in his cubicle playing mine-sweep and surfing the internet. He has virtually no traditional education but did IT training in the military. He is paid over $100,000/year for his enormous contributions to our military/government.

I know a few people who work for the local government, they get paid more than teachers and cops to do jack diddly dick. Drive around all day and shoot the **** mainly. Its disgusting, but I am extremely jealous.

I'm trying to figure this out myself as well. If you are getting bullied in school, hit the gym or take a boxing class. Your house gets robbed, buy a better security system. Laptop keeps getting infected with viruses, invest in some anti-virus software.

What's the problem with this line of thinking?

But that's just it -- we're not being bullied. We're not getting robbed. We're not infected with viruses. I could give a rats *** about being "The Super Power" of the globe, or whatever the **** he's trying to say, but I do care about the rest of the world thinking we have an inferiority complex and therefore have to drive the jacked up truck, have to have two carat fake diamond earrings, botoxed eyes, lips, chin, and forehead. I know what I thought about tools like that when I was younger, and lo, life always seemed to turn out pretty rough for those tools. How about we just calm the **** down, stop trying to police the friggin world, and mind our own Gordon damn business?! (PBUH)

What would happen if Hill shuts down? YOu do know that gov. generates revenues from tax dollars. So for every program they shut down jobs are lost and if the private sector doesn't pick up those jobs we go further down the toilet bowl. So, instead of a slashing technique we need tax reform and hold those in the government to actually ask our federal employees to be productive.

I don't disagree with you.

I was merely pointing out to the hypocrisy that we see in politics today. We hear one side complain nonstop about government and how it needs to be limited/cut while at the same time defending bases that could easily be considered excessive/costly (like the Hill).

The military is one of those "untouchables" it seems like. It is never wasteful, hardly ever talked about, and the defense budget is rarely discussed on the chopping block. Not because of our national security, but because of jobs.

This shouldn't be. The #1 reason why we have the military is to defend ourselves.

So when Romney talks about increasing defense spending and using our military to "prevent wars" I won't pick up my pitch fork against him. Like I said before, Paul is the only candidate that seems to suggest the military could use some adjusting.

Neither Obama or Romney want to talk about the elephant in the room.

I completely agree. But, I think the idea of cuts to any type of civil jobs is absurd in the idea that we are going to save money. It is just going to create more chaos in the private sector and there aren't companies that are going to come to the rescue and hire all of those newly unemployed workers. What we need it slash our substaties of companies if we truly believe in a free market get government money out of the hands of big oil. We have to have tax reform for our businesses. Then increase taxes across the board but especially in the upper class.

Looks like CCN is placing Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina and Indiana in the Romney camp. It is also placing Wisconsin in the Obama camp. That brings it to 247-206 with Nevada, Colorado, Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, Florida and New Hampshire in the toss up category. Obama has the edge as he needs less of those 7 states but it is still anybodys game.
