I smell something FISHY

This whole thing is a cluster ****.

But why in the world Billy Hunter has deferred so much power to Derek Fisher is beyond me. Fisher is obviously intelligent and probably the most well spoken player in the NBA - but he is also clearly in over his head. Fisher is nothing but a child negotiating with men. Silver and Stern were eating guys like Fisher for lunch decades ago.

Fisher's job should be to sit on the sidelines and occassionally take the players temperature. He belongs nowhere near the frontlines.

You obviously have evidence to back this up.

<awaiting the obvious "well why was he chosen to be the player's reo then">

Do I always give the obvious answer?

Anyway - I said probably. I don't have any empirical data if that's what you're actually asking me for. But after years of listening and reading player interviews, I would say he's part of the minority of current NBA players who speak in clear and complete sentences. And of that minority his answers are usually among the most thoughtful.

Do you disagree?

Ugh, not this again.

The whole thing was ultimately a blessing for the Jazz. Freed up cap space and got rid of Fish who, leadership and experience aside, was not going to be an important cog down the road. It allowed Ronnie to start and indirectly led to Giricek being traded for Korver. We can all argue that 5 years down the road, all those moves hardly made the Jazz the contender we all wanted us to be after reaching the CFs in 2007, but at the time, getting rid of Fisher was a great move for the future of the franchise.

Actually, he needed to get out of his contract in Utah to live in a city that had doctors specializing in retinoblastoma. But you keep fighting the good fight.
My understanding is that Moran Eye Center is well-regarded and was capable of treating retinoblastoma.

They've even done research about it.

That being said, I am soooooo glad he squirmed out of his overpriced backup combo PG contract.

but he was so good for us...

He didnt pass empty Memo in the most critical moment of 4th game against spurs, and then we turned the ball over and they got 8 point lead while we could decrease to 3. That was where i hate him

Derek Fisher's daughter was 10 months old and had been dealing with the new found fatal cancer for 2 months. As I understand it there were 2 doctors in the entire U.S. that had experience (not just specialized) dealing with the form of rare cancer that his 10 MONTH OLD BABY DAUGHTER had. One was in New York, and on was in L.A. How can anyone condem him for leaving the Jazz? Do you think the Jazz released him from his contract just solely based on his word? I would guess that there had do be doctors medical records for his daughter based on a release of an NBA contract. I dont have proof, I'm just stating the obvious because Im not a neanderthal banging around 2 rocks as my proof for everything like the damn primates on this website that still think he screwed us. Do any of you that think he was out to screw us; have kids? Did you see the CNN special about his daughters cancer in her eye? Thats what I thought.

A lie is a lie it doesn't matter if he had good intentions. Are the owners lying or trying to keep their league health and vibrant? The whole point of this thread was not to rehash the story. It was to point out the feeble moral perch that Fisher stands on.

Only in Utah.

I've found this to be pretty much a non-issue everywhere else.
that is the point why is he some sort of moral leader for the players??

lets take a look at a similar story...lets take Sarah Palin questioning Obama on his ability to serve because he only had a small run in the senate than she herself goes and leaves her role as governor in Alaska. I doesn't matter if you commit and act of wrongness to the grime of the earth you are still a hypocrite if you call someone else out for the same thing. In this case Fisher calling the owners liars. He is the OG when it comes to stretching the truth!!

What I recall in media reports was that there were a few select cities that had specialists for his daughter. I believe they included New York, LA, Seattle, Dallas and Miami. Something like that. I doubt he had intentions to get out of his contract with Utah to sign with LA. It was to move to one of those cities. The timing of the signing with LA was the big deal. Fisher should have been smart enough to understand how signing with the Lakers a week after voiding the Utah deal would look. I doubt there was ill intentions, or even misleading speech. If the Lakers weren't such a familiar setting for Fisher, he probably wouldn't have signed there so quickly.
