I Still Support Hayward

Hayward's MO has been slow starts to the season. This season is definitely different in that regard. Lets see him put it together this year. I think he will.

Yep.

Lindsey has said that the Jazz will be super aggressive in free agency next summer and believes they can attract a high caliber free agent.

Marc Gasol? He's accustomed to playing in a small market, so maybe he'd be willing to sign with Utah? We'd have to offer him a 5 year deal though, which could be risky with a player who's approaching 30. Although, his game is definitely one that will age well. His passing and defense would obviously fit well with the identity Snyder is trying to build for this team.

Idk, I'm just thinking out loud.

Max out Jimmy Butler. Don't think the Bulls can match because they are a cheap franchise. Not sure how many others are going to want to max him out. Come hard and early with a max contract.

Just a heads up: Under the new CBA, teams can only offer contracts up to four years in length to other teams' free agents.

One thing I am highly encouraged by is that Hayward has it going right out of the gate and not in January or March.

Right, it would have to be a sign and trade. Honestly, I don't see Memphis ever letting him go until after this next contract. I see the Jazz chasing, obviously depending on Kanter's year, Millsap or Greg Monroe. I think that tier of player is realistic.

I'm not sure "slow start" accurately describes Gordo's 2013/14 season. Yes, November was bad for him, but his first half was better than his second half (January was amazing, February was disastrous).

Point is he has had slow starts to every season except this season, so far.

Really? I thought the advantage of the five year deal was that the RFA/UFA's team can offer the fifth year in a sign and trade? Not true?
1. The extra year gives the own team an advantage in re-signing their player (same goes for the larger max raises). Extending that extra year in sign-and-trades creates a loophole that nerfs this advantage.

2. This only changed under the 2011 CBA. Under the 2005 CBA, a sign-and-trade contract could be up to six years in length (when max length free agent contracts were one year longer for both own and other team free agents).

I'm just being pedantic, but this really depends on how you define a "slow start". Gordo had an up-and-down season last year. There was no clear upward trend from start to finish.
