Both Booker and Gobert will be competing with Kanter for minutes (plus Evans and Novak). If Kanter thinks he's entitled to big minutes and a prominent role again, he's going to find himself on the bench a lot. There's a decent chance his minutes go down this season with the added depth and development at the 4/5.

Agreed he'll have to earn his minutes. It is also rumored that Hayward will get some minutes as an agile, playmaking PF.

I don't really see Gobert taking Kanter's minutes though, because he'll back up Favors. Unless Favors has a completely different offensive style, he and Gobert will see very few minutes on the court together.

Novak and Booker will play, as will Gobert, but the Jazz aren't giving up on Kanter and Favors. I don't see the additions as replacements at all, but rather reminders of what is expected/filling of needs. With all the staff changes/additions and emphasis on player develoment, Kanter is still one of our most promising prospects. I believe this staff will work with him so his play will merit the time he gets.

I doubt it. I expect a decent surprise season for Kanter with the return of a bunch of people hanging from his rooster claiming MIPPOTY or talking about maxing him again.

He's an above average shooter inside the arc (and improving). I posted this chart when he was first signed by the Jazz. He's not Kevin Love from 3pt line, but he's a dependable shooter from just about everywhere else.

Random thought: maybe Booker will make Kanter tougher. If they're playing against one another in practice and Booker is playing aggressive & physical, perhaps it will help Kanter?

There's no guarantee Kanter plays 2000+ minutes this season, especially if Quin is serious about playing a Spurs/Hawks style, with loads of ball and player movement, and emphasizing (team) defense. At this point, Kanter's a poor man's Al Jefferson, who's pretty much the antithesis of Quin's stated philosophy.

And that's why DL had publicly promised us that they will experiment with Kanter shooting 3's this year, starting from the corners and working his way to the longer parts of the perimeter. He has solid mechanics, and a nice touch. The way he has been playing defense, if he doesn't make that 3pt shot, I don't know if he's gonna be back next year.

Favors and Kanter get bad raps as bad passers.The offense I watched Utah play last year didn't hilite these guys in a ball moving ,lots of player movement offense.
Favors and Kanter have just never had an opportunity to play in a offense with player and ball movement, playing for the Jazz.
The players of importance that played in SL (Hood,Burke,Gobert,Exum )all liked the way the ball moved and felt more freedom.Why wouldn't Kanter and Favors feel the same freedom in Coach Snyder's offense as well.

Who said anything about stats? Kanter doesn't make quick reads or decisions. His overall feel on both ends is poor. Even with his lack of experience, I don't think it's fair to think such a profound weakness will turn into a strength.

It's going to be difficult to evaluate these guys until we actually see them in the new system. Unfortunately, I still don't think that we know what we have in these young players. With an innovative system and competent coaching, we may have a great core, or we may find that the core will end up being untapped potential. I hate to say it, but we may need to be patient a little longer.
